This is a family name and I absolutely love the nn Freddie for a girl. I'm a relatively conservative person and worry this is just too out there!

It's lovely.

Iamclearlyamug · 17/04/2023 12:16

I love it ❤️

knittingaddict · 17/04/2023 12:17

It's not out there at all.

Reminds me of the Georgette Heyer book, so I like it for that reason.

toastofthetown · 17/04/2023 12:30

I like it, and don’t think it’s too out there. I only like the Freddy spelling though (though I almost always prefer -y to -ie if both are accepted spellings).

WhatHoMarjorie · 17/04/2023 12:42

I wouldn't say it's an out there name, It's a name with a long pedigree, that happens to be currently out of fashion. If I had to guess I'd imagine that a couple with a daughter called Frederica were upper class and very traditional. I thought of Georgette Heyer too, and I think there's also a Frederica in Austen's Lady Susan.

WhatEasterEgg · 17/04/2023 12:55

Really strong name! Love it.

Skybluepinky · 17/04/2023 13:21

Def not out there, it’s an old traditional name.

CallieQ · 17/04/2023 13:41

Horrible

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 17/04/2023 14:03

I really really like it but you might want to bear in mind that Freddie is very popular for boys at the moment so she is likely to encounter quite a few. This may or may not bother you (and her!).

JulieHoney · 17/04/2023 14:08

Love it. I had a great friend called Frederique, Fredi for short, when I was in school. And of course she’s one of the greatest Georgette Heyer heroines.

sandstormboots · 17/04/2023 14:17

I'd say go for it!

opinionspleas · 17/04/2023 15:03

Thank you very much! Just wouldn't want any teasing/bullying because I'd chosen a silly name.

ZeroPlastic · 17/04/2023 15:04

I love it.

bravotango · 17/04/2023 15:19

My favourite girls name! I had a DS...named him Fred Grin

opinionspleas · 17/04/2023 16:04

Haha I mean I think Frederick (Fred/Freddie) for a boy is also great. I just wouldn't worry about those as I know they're popular. I grew up with a very common name that couldn't easily be shorterned and always fancied having a slightly longer name where there were nice nns but I guess you probably always want what you don't have!

Personally I would hate to be called that as a girl. Henrietta too.

shoopshoopdedoo · 17/04/2023 21:40

Oooh I like it!

RobertaTheRotund · 17/04/2023 21:41

I like it and also love Henrietta. I know a female Henry (short for Henrietta) and she's really cool

opinionspleas · 17/04/2023 23:21

I also like Henrietta but for me Frederica has the family connection, it’s classic, it has a cute nickname. It’s just whether they would get teased or if they have to be a particular kind of girl to pull it off if that makes sense

Frederica is lovely and you could use the full name.
Freddie, Fritzi, Rica
Frederica Luise - Frulu
Also ..
Freda
Erica

YouSoundLovely · 18/04/2023 06:59

Really nice. And you could shorten it to Rica, along the lines of Anne of Green Gables' daughter Rilla (from Marilla). Freddie's nice for a girl too, though.

opinionspleas · 18/04/2023 11:45

I had never even thought of Fritzi! That's a great alternative nickname. I quite like the idea that if they don't like the full name or the nn that they'd have a number of other choices - Erica, Effie, Fritzi, Fred. Hopefully they'd like one of those!

MargauxM · 18/04/2023 11:48

I think Frederica strikes that perfect balance of being recognisable, easy to spell and a bit vintage cool! I would say go for it!

ohfibonacci · 18/04/2023 11:50

Classical, cool, great nicknames and family connections. Perfect!

Hanna86 · 19/04/2023 20:18

Love it. Now feeling annoyed that I didn't have it on my list, as I know a grown up one so could have thought of it!
