I really like Alice and Nancy. Anna and Eleanor are solid picks too.

Charlotte is undeniably equally classic, but I’ve always found it to be dull, and don’t like any of the potential nicknames. Edith/Mabel/Florence/Matilda are all fine, safe choices but aren’t as timeless as the others so are liable to date more. And Libby I find to be a bit insubstantial compared to the others.

ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 15/04/2023 23:32

I like Nancy and Mabel.

Sometherusername · 15/04/2023 23:37

Alice - nice. Classic
Eleanor - nice. Classic
Edith - doesn't sound good to me
Mable - Mabel. Ok but a bit of a dairy cow name
Nancy - like
Florence - ubiquitous at the moment
Matilda - fine
Anna - classic but unusual. Like this.
Libby - like (but would use Elisabeth/Elizabeth)
Charlotte - dull, fuddy duddy

Theoldwoman · 15/04/2023 23:42

Alice and Charlotte without a doubt miles ahead of the others.

Riverlee · 15/04/2023 23:43

Alice - ok
Eleanor - nice
Edith - old fashioned
Mable - Blue Peter dog
Nancy - hate, due to Nancy boy connotations
Florence - love
Matilda - ok
Anna - nice
Libby - short for Olivia
Charlotte - love

MissingMoominMamma · 15/04/2023 23:44

Edith is my favourite, then Eleanor.

DramaAlpaca · 15/04/2023 23:48

Nancy is dreadful.

Only use Mabel if you can spell it - it's not 'Mable'.

The rest are all nice.

AdaColeman · 15/04/2023 23:54

Alice Edith and Matilda are my favourites.

I don't like Nancy Mabel or Libby.

Pieceofpurplesky · 15/04/2023 23:57

You basically named my family!

Alice cousin. Love it
Eleanor Aunty. Popular
Edith. Great aunt. Love it and also Eadith the old English spelling.
Mable Great Aunt. Mabel is better
Nancy Aunty. Not a huge fan of the name.
Florence Like it but not the nn Flo
Matilda Love it. Tilly as a nn is fab.
Anna Cousin. Simple and classic
Libby Cousin. Love it.

Charlotte Bit dull.

I

mathanxiety · 15/04/2023 23:59

Love Alice and Nancy.
The rest are ok.

'Mabel' is the spelling.

mathanxiety · 15/04/2023 23:59

Also love Edith.

MsJuniper · 16/04/2023 00:03

All lovely names.

Nancy is quite American.

Eleanor nn Nora would be my pick.

Also love Anna, Charlotte and Matilda.

SquigglePigs · 16/04/2023 00:09

Alice - nice, but don't love it
Eleanor - love (and was on our short list)
Edith - I don't hate it but don't love it either
Mable - don't like but if you do go with it I think it should be Mabel
Nancy - really don't like (DH wanted but I vetoed)
Florence - lovely
Matilda - very nice to
Anna - classic and can't go wrong. Also like Hannah
Libby - like but only as a nickname, would want a "proper" name on the birth certificate
Charlotte - classic and I really like (also on our shortlist)

RoseMartha · 16/04/2023 00:09

My favourites from your list are Anna and Florence

JupiterFortified · 16/04/2023 00:12

They’re all fine but not my favourites.

Except Edith - I love it.

Kanaloa · 16/04/2023 00:16

Alice - nice name, solid and classic. I know a lot of under 5s called Alice though if that bothers you.
Eleanor - okay. I know quite a few Eleanors and even more girls names Ellie.
Edith - I’m not overly keen, I think it just had a bit of a clumsy sound.
Mable - I prefer Mabel. I think it’s nice, I know one baby Mabel and that’s it.
Nancy - I think this is quite cute, only ever met one little Nancy.
Florence - it’s ok, I know a lot of them.
Matilda - popular but really nice.
Anna - nice enough, classic and sensible.
Libby - cute but a bit babyish.
Charlotte - I find this really boring. I know so many and I don’t think it has a nice sound either.

My favourites are Matilda & Nancy. I like Mabel too.

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/04/2023 01:44

I’d go for Nancy

Alice - nice but done to death
Eleanor - very nice but done to death
Edith - I love it but done to death
Mable - Mabel. Alright but a bit twee
Nancy - really like it and not overused
Florence - too twee for me
Matilda - nice but done to death
Anna - nice, quite popular
Libby - great if short for Elizabeth
Charlotte - lovely but done to death

Flora
Serena
Elsbeth
Marianne
Adela
Zoe
Annalise

might be others

Fandabedodgy · 16/04/2023 02:33

I love

Alice
Eleanor
Edith
Anna
Charlotte

I don't like the others.

17caterpillars1mouse · 16/04/2023 10:35

Alice - I like it but couldn't get it past dh as he just kept saying 'who?'. It does seem to be having a moment but makes a lovely middle name too

Eleanor - it's nice enough but would probably be shortened to Ellie which I find a bit meh. I prefer Eleanore

Edith - cute. You might also like Meredith?

Mable - I like but spelt Mabel

Nancy - not a fan and have cone across so many recently

Florence - nice. I love Florrie

Matilda - I feel like Matilda has been done to death to be honest

Anna - lovely. I also love Hannah

Libby - not a fan

Charlotte - fine just a bit dull

CharlotteJames19 · 16/04/2023 11:06

I love your list! My favourites are Alice and Nancy. Also like Anna. Good luck in your decision!

AgnesGray · 16/04/2023 11:12

All solid names. Well used but not ubiquitous.

Personal favourites are Alice, Mabel and Nancy. I think Alice is the least likely to date of those, so I'd pick that.

But you honestly can't go wrong with that list. All nice names

ourflagmeansdeath · 16/04/2023 13:23

Alice - Nice but it is basically "A Lice".
Eleanor (but don't live Ellie) - I love Eleanor but dislike Ellie as well. I do love Nora though :)
Anna - Great but overused.
Florence - Beautiful, favourite off the shortened list.

KirstenBlest · 16/04/2023 15:58

Alice - like
Eleanor - ok but will be an Ellie. The 2 spellings and 2 pronunciations put me off
Edith - no
Mable - misspelling of Mabel. No
Nancy - like
Florence - ok, but prefer Flora
Matilda - ok, a bit overused, not keen on Tilly or Tilda
Anna - like, also like Hannah
Libby - not keen. Elizabeth is lovely
Charlotte - ok

I'd choose Alice or Anna. Not keen on Ellie or Flo.

Mumofgirls2017 · 16/04/2023 17:52
