Baby name and dog name sound alike

LolaBearthePolarBear · 14/04/2023 14:27

So i've seen a thread similar to this one so it is abit ridiculous but i need help.

I'm expecting my first baby in Oct with my partner however he already has 3 children so we have 4 between us. All the kids names begin with L and partner adamant babies name must begin L too, we also have a dog named Lola.

Now been as weve alreday taken 4 of the nicest L names, there aren't many nice ones left i like however i really like the name Liyla..

Problem is it sounds very like Lola and i think the dog is going to be confused anytime we call the baby which makes me a bit sad. I do have pet names i call the dog which we can use but she will still always come to her name Lola..

How much of a problem do you think this would be.. anyone got any experience with rhyming names!

Lots of pps not reading the fact op has recently added a post saying she already had a Lilly, Lucas & Leo before suggesting names 🤦🏼‍♀️

How about:

Lara
Lana
Louise
Lydia
Lena
Lucille
Lauren
Laura
Leanne/Leanna
Lexi/Lexie
Lettie

So you have to name it L to keep up with something he started with his ex.... okayyy

DarkDarkNight · 15/04/2023 18:26

There would be no way I would be calling my child an L name to fit in with the names of my partner’s previous children with his ex. This is the child you and him are having together, he or her should get their own identity.

Daffodilwoman · 15/04/2023 18:40

I do think it’s controlling him deciding what initial the child’s name will start with. He’s already had his own way with 2 other women.
How old are you both op?
Anyway, if you like Lilah then go for it.

GBoucher · 16/04/2023 05:57

The only L names I can think of that are sufficiently different to Lola are:

Lydia
Letitia
Lavinia
Lynette
Lindsay

It's very restrictive. And what if you end up having more than one child?!

MargotDeWitt · 16/04/2023 06:04

I think that Lilah is too similar to Lilly also.

Ok so the spelling is just me being dyslexic.. it’s Lilah as in Delilah without the De. I was spelling it like Layla with an I in my head, sorry

Anyway.. the L thing is a contentious issue but I agreed to try and find a name I liked before I ruled it out. And it’s not just from one of his previous partners it’s from 2 so it’s something he’s wanted for all his kids regardless of partner. And part of me thinks if my baby is the only one without an L name now, will they feel left out?

Lilah so far is the only one I like yes, Lilah or Layla but both come with the same dog issue! Getting the feeling the L name might just have to be scrapped..

Yes. Scrap it. Your partner is hung up on something really daft with this 'L' thing.

In my family - by complete coincidence - there are 4 siblings whose first names start with one letter, and 1 with a different letter.

It never even comes up and there is no feeling of being left out not having a certain letter. It's just not a thing.

Lydia is lovely
Lyra ?

The only person I've known of to have named all his kids on a letter theme was Goebbels ('H') - so, there's that...

Personally I'd break the mould and choose a name you like with consideration of the entire alphabet.

Make a stand and call her Noelle

😂

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 16/04/2023 12:57

I didn't know the Goebbels naming thing and have just looked it up. Apparently the tradition was started by Mrs. Goebbels's first husband Confused

ZZpop · 16/04/2023 18:07

How about a name with an L in it such as Eliza, Elsie or Mabel

FayCarew · 17/04/2023 11:24

Lily (usual spelling of Lilly) and Leo are top 10 names and if you combine Lucas, Luca, Luka, Lukas and Luke, that probably is too

Lilly and Lila/Lyla/Lilah are too similar IMO

AutumnNymph · 17/04/2023 21:10

How about
Lilly, Lucas, Leo and Lola dog and
Liberty (Libby for short)
Laura
Lori
Lorna
Lisselle
Lisette
Leah
Luna
Lara
Lana
Lexie
Leena

First off, I'd be telling partner he doesn't get to dictate shit like that. Why can't YOUR child, that you're carrying and birthing, have a name that YOU like that doesn't have to begin with L? It's so screwed up - they are kids, individuals, not toy cars in a row.

Exactly this!!
I knew a girl called leamonie. It was pronounced Lemon ie. She spent all her time telling people how to spell and pronounce it.
I would spell your husbands choice Lilah, except I wouldn't be going along with his stupid L idea. And yes, it does sound like the dogs name.
