Which do you prefer for the little brother of Nathaniel (Nate)?

Surname is 🦊

Both are lovely, but I'd go for Zachary over Gabriel so it's not too matchy with the 'el' of Nathaniel. Zach is a great nickname too.

Zachary. Partly as the Gabriel I know is quite naughty so the name seems a little ironic in the circumstances.

ClassicLib · 08/04/2023 08:20

Zachary. It’s inevitable that he will be called Zach, which is a 😎 name.

LlynTegid · 08/04/2023 08:20

I'd choose Gabriel of the two.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/04/2023 08:21

Zachary

MrsBunnyEars · 08/04/2023 08:24

Both good names! I’d go for Gabriel.

anothername2d · 08/04/2023 08:25

Gabriel 100% lovely name as is Nate. Both were on my list for my 2 boys 😀

CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair · 08/04/2023 08:38

Day to day we’d probably end up using Gabe and Zach as nn.

I like both and Gabriel was on the list for DS1. I was put off by reading old threads on here that said there was bullying potential from being called “gay”. I now think maybe that was a bit silly of me.

I like Zachary too but wonder if it’s not as formal as a full name if they wanted to have that option when they’re older and a bit less timeless (I knew quite a few born 10-15 years ago). Also as someone who has a name that’s constantly misspelled I wonder if it would drive both of us nuts in the future!

I think Nate and Zach flow better than Nate and Gabe so based on that I’d go for Zachary but both names are great

Briallen · 08/04/2023 08:41

I’m also a fan of Isaac nickname Zac too

Eggseggseverywhere · 08/04/2023 08:42

The Z of Zachary and the X of surname will make for a fab name!
I have a Gabriel so love that too!

FayCarew · 08/04/2023 08:42

Zachary. Zac is nice and goes well with Nate. Nate & Gabe/Nathaniel and Gabriel a bit too similar

Lndnmummy · 08/04/2023 08:45

You might be my name twin OP. And it might have been my post about the nickname for Gabriel.

Lndnmummy · 08/04/2023 08:47

And I should have said I love both names. I have two sons who have two of the names on this thread... Another option might be Noah?

I wouldn't worry about the names 'going together'. Much more important to give the children names that work for them individually for a lifetime.

Gabriel Fox. 😍😍😍😍

shoopshoopdedoo · 08/04/2023 08:54

I like both, but prefer Zachary

Hotcrossed · 08/04/2023 08:56

i prefer Gabriel

justmyluck1234 · 08/04/2023 08:56

Another vote for Zachary here

That was a contender until I realised that Isaac Fox sounds quite close to “I suck cocks” 😂

I do like the sound of Noah but it’s just too popular for me
and there’s quite a few in our wider circle.

Was going to say Gabriel until l saw Nathaniel...bit too much iel going on.

midsomermurderess · 08/04/2023 09:13

Gabriel. I really dislike Zac as a shortening. Everything will sound cool with your surname though.

I’ve seen this a few times on this thread and am intrigued. In mine and DH’s accents (not the same) Nathaniel sounds similar to Daniel, so more of a ‘yul’ sound but Gabriel is definitely an ‘el’ sound.

@CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair , I'd say Nathaniel as Nuth-ann-yul an Gabriel as Gayb-ri-yul
