You’ve got lots of choices! The one that sticks out for me is Woodrow; I don’t really like that.
With so many on the list I think id
probably wait until baby arrives and then try and narrow it down. Hopefully one will feel right.

BooksAndHooks · 01/04/2023 21:23

If I had to only pick one from each list I would pick Elliot and Penelope.

ICMB · 01/04/2023 21:25

I LOVE Darla for a girl 😍
but for a boy, to me, Jenson gives slightly Aiden/kaiden/made up vibes. Bit hipster-y for me 👵🏻 (That’s me being a mean old grandma)

leelan · 01/04/2023 21:30

I like out of your list... Vinnie or Jude for a boy and Zara and Mia for a girl.
I would try narrow it down to max 3 of each lol

Boys

William - a classic but I know loads of varying ages so find it a bit meh

Blake - not a fan at all. I met an awful one once, violent teenager, and I think that's put me off for life.

Jude - I like but prefer as a nn for Judah which I think is gorgeous but dh says no

Dexter - it's OK, I know a few under 10s and a few dogs

Jenson - down market

Quinn - i really like it since watching homeland

Samuel - i like but prefer Samson

Vinnie - nope
Casper - no, just think of the ghost
Rex - ok, a bit dinosaur

Woodrow (Woody) - I actually know 3 young Woody's, but I'm not a fan

Dominic - i like Dominic but dislike Dom

Elliot - love it but Elliott

Girls

Molly - its a bit twee
Penelope - ok, i like Penny and Nell
Maeve - lovely
Ada - nice enough
Darla - not a fan though strangely love Dervla

Pippa - lovely
Josie - lovely as a shortening of Josephine
Zara - nice
Lena - not a fan

Dominic or Casper
Francesca or Gwen

William - fine but done to death
Blake - nah
Jude - nice but suddenly got VERY popular

Dexter - no
Jenson - no, it’s the Ryan of the early 20s
Quinn - it seems to be popular for teen girls who are non binary so I wouldn’t
Samuel - perfectly nice
Vinnie - thuggish
Casper - nice
Rex - only for a dog
Woodrow (Woody) - no!
Dominic - nice
Elliot - ok

Girls

Molly - nice enough
Penelope - ok but can’t stand Penny. Nell?
Maeve - Mauve. I don’t like but it’s popular
Ada - I think it’s harsh
Darla - no!
Gwen -great
Mia - done to death
Francesca (Frankie) - lovely
Darcie - it’s the Tracy of the early 20s
Pippa - only short for Philippa, too babyish alone
Josie - ok
Zara - nice
Lena - ok but too many Lara/Lyra/Luna/Lola/Leah/Leila/Lila names about

Devakai · 02/04/2023 01:07

William
Darla

Kanaloa · 02/04/2023 01:10

Boys

William - nice, strong, won’t go out of fashion
Blake - nice name, I’ve only looked after 2 of them
Jude - nice but I know lots of them
Dexter - nice but (I’m old) reminds me of Dexter’s laboratory!
Jenson - this is okay, I think it’s getting more popular because I know a few
Quinn - reminds me of the girl from Glee. Not keen.
Samuel - really nice, I like Sam too
Vinnie - I like Vincent. I don’t like Vinnie alone.
Casper - the friendly ghost
Rex - seems like a dog’s name to me
Woodrow (Woody) - awful, really bad. Wood?
Dominic - nice enough but I don’t like Dom
Elliot - nice but really really popular

Girls

Molly - it’s ok, I know so many
Penelope - nice, I know a few
Maeve - I find this ok
Ada - there are a lot of Ava/Ayda/Ada. It’s nice enough though
Darla - not keen. Makes me think of a child beauty queen?
Gwen - it’s ok. Reminds me of Gwen from Malory towers. Never met one in real life!
Mia - it’s ok, very well used
Francesca (Frankie) - really nice
Darcie - okay. Well used but nice enough
Pippa - same as darcie
Josie - same as Pippa and darcie!
Zara - nice enough
Lena - very pretty

IceCreamWithSprinkles · 02/04/2023 01:10

Depends what flows well with your surname, but my favourites are:

William
Samuel
Elliot (my fav)

Ada
Francesca
Zara

Mumofgirls2017 · 03/04/2023 07:11

Casper, Rex, Penelope would be my picks but lots of other nice ones on your list too!

FayCarew · 03/04/2023 13:12

Your lists have a range of quite different names. I'd narrow it down and think of how it goes with the surname.

OK:
William - safe classic, will be Will or Billy
Samuel - classic, will be Sam

Not sure:
Rex - ok but seems to be getting popular
Dominic - nice but I don't like Dom
Elliot - nice but Elliot, Eliot or Eliott spellings and lots of El- names popular
Blake - ok but a bit nothingy, and Dynasty
Casper - Casper, Kasper or Caspar spellings

No:
Woodrow (Woody) - awful
Jude - don't like it
Dexter - Dex Dexter, Dynasty
Jenson - will be Jens. F1 driver name. Not keen
Quinn - Quim. Just No
Vinnie - Vinnie Jones. Ugh!

OK:
Molly
Gwen - like it, but wouldn't use a longer form. People will assume it is short for something like Gwendoline, and it will get misspelt as Gewn (yes, really)

Not sure:
Penelope - seems very popular in here, will be Penny
Francesca (Frankie) - don't like Frankie much, prefer Fran
Pippa - if short for Philippa
Josie - if short for Josephine
Zara - know quite a few of them so a bit ordinary
Lena - Leena, Lena, Layna pronunciations - too complicated

Don't like:
Mia - 'mere', overused
Maeve - don't like it, too many May, Mae and Mabel
Ada - I know lots of Adrians (Ade/Adey)
Darla - nothingy, Carla's nice though
Darcie - don't like it
Lena - Leena, Lena, Layna pronunciations - too complicated

WorkOfTheDevil · 04/04/2023 00:02

Caspar and Zara ❤️

Thisgirlcan21 · 04/04/2023 00:10

Quinn/Elliott
Ada love this name!

miniaturepixieonacid · 04/04/2023 00:16

William - like it. Good, solid, traditional choice. Will never date.
Blake - quite like it but seems a 'trendy' or 'faddy' kind of name.
Jude - like it. Well known but relatively uncommon.
Dexter - not keen. Seems more like a pet name to me somehow - like 'Champ' or 'Buster'
Jenson - not keen but no particular reason why.
Quinn - really like it but for a girl. Not sure about a boy.
Samuel - it's ok but it's been so popular for so long that it seems overdone.
Vinnie - quite like it as a nickname for Vincent. Not as a standalone.
Casper - quite like it but been really put off it by knowing a couple of tricky ones.
Rex - not keen. I see it as a name for a dog.
Woodrow (Woody) - Do not like Woody for a person. Woodrow is fine but I just add Wilson in my head and can't dissociate it.
Dominic - quite like it.
Elliot - love it. This is my favourite from your list by a very long way.

Molly - quite like it. Cutesy but well established.
Penelope - not overly keen but it's grown on me in the last year or so.
Maeve - quite like it.
Ada - really like it.
Darla - not keen. No real reason why.
Gwen - dislike this. It feels unfinished but I don't like Gwendoline either.
Mia - like it. Perhaps not quite as popular as it was.
Francesca (Frankie) - love Francesca but I wouldn't shorten it.
Darcie - really like it but would spell it Darcey.
Pippa - really like it though would prob use Philippa as a full name.
Josie - really like it and feel this does actually work as a standalone but would probably go with Josephine on birth certificate.
Zara - love it.
Lena - like it.

My choices would be Elliot followed (after a long gap) by William then Jude and Zara followed by Francesca then Josie/Pippa/Darcie equally.

elm26 · 04/04/2023 00:18

I love

Jenson
Vinnie
Jude

Penelope
Darcie
Francesca

BritInAus · 04/04/2023 00:27

Blake really stands out to me, and not in a good way. Your other names are all very classic/traditional (eg William) or trendy/bit hipster (Maeve, Quinn, Jude). Blake sounds like a chavvy teenager hanging around a shopping centre being rude to old ladies.

ourflagmeansdeath · 04/04/2023 19:51

Boys

William - It's okay - I prefer just Liam
Blake - Love Blake
Jude - Beautiful
Dexter - No
Jenson - I do like it actually but might get merged with all the 'son' names
Quinn - It seems more like a girls name to me
Samuel - Nice but plain
Vinnie - Absolutely not
Casper - Love Casper. So wanted to use it but got too scared because of the ghost.
Rex - No, dislike it
Woodrow (Woody) - Absolutely not, worst name on this list
Dominic - It's okay but makes me think of Dicky from Nicky, Ricky, Dicky and Dawn as his full name was Dominic.
Elliot - Seems a bit wet

Girls

Molly - I actually think Molly's super sweet
Penelope - This is defo just me but I see it as the two words pen and elope put together and can't get it out my head! I also just dislike Pen/Penny
Maeve - Love Maeve! Becoming more and more popular though
Ada - Beautiful
Darla - Sounds like darling...not for me
Gwen - Lovely
Mia - Pretty but has missing in action associations for me
Francesca (Frankie) - My youngest is Francesca!! So I obviously love the name haha. But she doesn't go by Frankie, she's either her full name or Fran. I do like Frankie though, it just doesn't fit her.
Darcie - I like Darcy but not Darcie
Pippa - Love Pippa, it's so sweet
Josie - Same as Pippa
Zara - The shop...I just don't like the name
Lena - It's nice but would get mispronounced.

Fav boy names are Jude and Casper and fav girls names are Francesca, Pippa and Josie.
