Thoughts on Lily May?

As in first name-middle name. Just called Lily.

Absolutely love Lily. Very pretty.

I like May very much, but it’s a bit of a filler middle name, as Jane and Louise were when I was born in the 1970s.

SallyWD · 30/03/2023 14:45

Very nice. I like both names and glad you're not hyphenating them

toastofthetown · 30/03/2023 14:46

Lily May feels nineties/early 2000s to me. May is a bit of a filler middle name, but I feel like (and there’s no good data on middle name popularity so this is purely anecdotal) like May is more dated than Rose or Grace and has fallen out of favour over the last few years. Lily is inoffensive but very popular.

Viviennemary · 30/03/2023 14:47

I like Lily but not with May.

Buzzer3555 · 30/03/2023 14:49

I think it's lovely

tatteddear · 30/03/2023 14:52

Well I've got a late teen Lily and a late teen Mae. I love them both and I like them together (though our Mae was born just slightly before May became the middle name for every second girl and ours was called that as she was due in May and we like the flower hence the spelling) People will say it's too common but who cares really?

SophiaSW1 · 30/03/2023 14:54

Lily is great. Lily may is a bit dated

Jungfraujoch · 30/03/2023 14:55

Love it! One of my two boys would’ve been a Lily.

Marylou62 · 30/03/2023 15:08

Coincidentally both my grandma's were Lily (Lillian) May... lovely names...but my paternal GM was Lil..(actually Fag Ash Lil..but that's another story!)

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/03/2023 15:10

It's nice but a bit blah. Lily is nice.

And May is especially a filler name now. Why bother with a middle name? They aren't compulsory.

StylishM · 30/03/2023 15:14

Any 'xxx may' to me sounds very common.

Ella May
Lily May
Daisy May

Bleurgh. Just go with one name

Paperexcelandpens · 30/03/2023 15:16

I know so so so many girls called Lily May.

coldmarchmorn · 30/03/2023 15:18

So blah. So many of them. It's just very.....insipid.

There's nothing wrong with it, but I would never give a child such a bland name.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 30/03/2023 15:24

I'll go with bland af too.

EggBlanket · 30/03/2023 15:29

I don’t understand the obsession with calling all girls “something May”. There are so many tiger names out there.

Soproudoflionesses · 30/03/2023 15:45

I know 3 children with this name - it's ok

hattie43 · 30/03/2023 16:01

Done to death

megletthesecond · 30/03/2023 16:05

Nice but done to death.
Anything ending in 'May' sounds dated to me.

LadyDanburysHat · 30/03/2023 16:06

I have a Lily, so I love it. But it's a very safe name. So I think you really need a more interesting middle name than May

FayCarew · 30/03/2023 16:15

Lily is ok but has been very popular for ages. There are lots of similar names popular now like Lila, Lyra, Layla, Lola, Lucy, and Luna.

May is a bit of a filler middle name, and there will be plenty of other Lily Mays.
I'd choose a different middle name. I'm not keen on it.

fairislecable · 30/03/2023 16:19

It may be OK now, but in my GD’s class ( she is 9) there are 3! So it was a very popular choice 10 years ago.

Kanaloa · 30/03/2023 16:24

It’s nice enough. About 4-5 years ago every other child I worked with was named either Lily May or Lily Rose. Very very popular, but nice too.

Cinnamon23 · 30/03/2023 16:49

I love Lily, but May/Mae as a middle name is everywhere! I don’t dislike the name itself but I’d go for something a bit different personally.

Gladiaterf · 30/03/2023 16:54

It's fine, but very common now. I know 2 Lily May/Mae's and 3 other Lilys.

cptartapp · 30/03/2023 16:57

Both a bit wet and certainly wouldn't put them together.
Bearable on a dainty toddler but otherwise no.
