Help! Costa or Freddie?

Uvayema · 28/03/2023 02:33

Less than 3 weeks left and we don't have a name for baby boy 2. We like Frederick (Freddie), but also considering Constantine (Costa) due to family tradition on my side (Spanish heritage). DS is called Nico. What are your thoughts? Is Freddie too popular? Is Costa a valid option?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 28/03/2023 02:52

Yes Freddie is v popular and Costa to me, in UK, just reminds me of Costa coffee.

cauliflourleaf · 28/03/2023 02:56

Sorry, I just thought coffee, you can't do that in uk. Freddie is fab.

Glendaruel · 28/03/2023 02:57

Freddie lovely. My first thought for costa is costa coffee.

CuteCillian · 28/03/2023 03:06

The Constantine I know (in the UK) uses the nickname/abbreviation Conch, so I've never thought of the coffee connection! Both nice names.

BritInAus · 28/03/2023 03:08

Yes - Costa will always be known as a coffee shop chain in the UK.

MissMarplesbag · 28/03/2023 05:37

Costa no but Costas yes. I knew a Costas at work many years ago, it's a good nn for Constantine.

Freddie - no because the schools and nurseries are saturated with little Freddies.

DeflatedAgain · 28/03/2023 05:58

Costa is nice 🙂

DrHousecuredme · 28/03/2023 06:03

I love Freddie, I also love Constadine but Costa would be a firm no due to the coffee shop.

PinkSyCo · 28/03/2023 06:06

Definitely not Costa. Freddie’s nice but doesn’t go particularly well with Nico.

Uvayema · 28/03/2023 06:07

Thanks for your messages, so true about Costa coffee! How about Constan as a nickname for Constantine?
Other options we had were Francis (Frank/Frankie) and Victor (we've been told both are too old-fashioned) and Emilio (we've been told too foreign)

I know a Constantin who goes by Tino. But he's Romanian not Spanish. I think Costs is a bit coffee shoppy.

Uvayema · 28/03/2023 06:17

@garlictwist I thought of Tino, but then realised the pair would be Nico & Tino 🤣
Somebody suggested Coni, but again they would be Nico & Coni
This child is never going to be named!

Federico?

PinkSyCo · 28/03/2023 06:22

Oh Nico and Rico. Maybe not then. 😂

The advice on your other thread was to try to avoid keeping on asking everyone for advice about YOUR baby’s name! 😂

BCBird · 28/03/2023 06:28

I teach a Victor,he is 11. Costa nope. Think Emilio is lovely. No to Freddie

I strongly dislike this trend for choosing a nickname before the child is even born. If you like Constantine then call him that and let a nickname evolve naturally when he is old enough to have a preference.
What about Constantine Francis? They go together well and have plenty of ways to shorten each of them in later life if he wants to.

useitorlose · 28/03/2023 06:47

Could you use Tino as a nickname instead? Tee-no?

Robot278 · 28/03/2023 06:51

What about Francis but the the nn Franco?

Those people might be missing the point about the Baby Names board tbf.

@Uvayema I've only ever heard Coni used as a nickname for a girl Costanza. But then I've not met any Constantines or variations thereof. I'd imagine Tino, as you said, to be more common as a nickname.

I do agree that unless you're calling the child by its nickname from the day its born, there's no point thinking about it. And if you are, then just call them by the nickname.

DalmationCalledStripe · 28/03/2023 06:53

Constantine nickname Stan would be my vote

Topseyt123 · 28/03/2023 07:06

No to Costa as it will always now be Costa Coffee.

Freddie and Frankie are both nice names.

Victor is nice, but for me would always be associated with the Victor Meldrew character, so I wouldn't use it.

You didn’t read her other thread.

Stressed and has been asking all their friends for “their advice”

JuneOsborne · 28/03/2023 07:28

Emilio is lovely. And Constantine nn Stan is good too!

Uvayema · 28/03/2023 08:40

Thank you all! I do like Constantine but it's def too long not to have a nickname. Stan is quite difficult to pronounce in Spanish.
Do you know many Freddies in your schools/nurseries?
