Hello all, not pregnant yet but love discussing names. I think Quinn is so lovely and it’s my own list but DH thinks it’s too like ‘Quim’ which I had never heard of before… Does anyone use that term? I have never heard the word until he said it and I told him I’m pretty sure nobody would liken it to that but I think it’s put him off and sort of made me feel quite strange about it now and might have to come off my list. What are your thoughts though?
Thank you & happy weekend 😊

I have to admit that is what came to mind when I saw your thread title. But I do like the name, and it’s nicely non-binary. Quim is such an old word, and I’ve never heard anyone use it outside of a novel.

I think quim got used on Harlots which is maybe why people are aware of it. A couple of friends teens who are identifying as non binary right now have adopted the name Quinn, because I suppose it sounds unisex. So that’s my main association.

I don't think of Quim but that might be me - I actually didn't know it until I googled!!! I think Quinn is really lovely actually, whether for a boy or a girl and it's a common enough name as well

What do you like about it?
nn in handwriting can often look like an m
If you like the sound, you could use Gwyn or Wyn, both welsh boys' names meaning white or blessed. The feminine version is Gwen.

I’m with your DH on this one!

I always post on these threads… my name is Quin, I’m female, and have never had any issues with Quim. Didn’t even know it was a thing until I joined Mumsnet.

I love my name, it used to be much more unusual when I was younger, but with characters in TV shows being called it it is less so now. If you like it, go for it!
