Shelby

for a girl.

It is the odd one out on our list so I thought I should get more opinions on it separately. We usually prefer more classic names.

The reason we like this one is because it makes us think of the sea side and sea shells.

Any thoughts? Keep or take it off our list? Is this better in the middle?

Isabelle Shelby or Isabella Shelby, maybe?

Creativityescapee · 24/03/2023 19:59

Sorry I'd be taking it off the list

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 24/03/2023 20:01

I live it but it seems very american

Willowrose63 · 24/03/2023 20:01

I like Shelby!

MrNook · 24/03/2023 20:01

Awful but I went to school with a really nasty Shelby and that might be clouding my judgement

Ellmau · 24/03/2023 20:02

Better for a middle name imo. Isabella is beautiful.

Changingnameslotstoday · 24/03/2023 20:04

I loved Steel Magnolias and love the name. It’s not going to be the most out there name in a typical English class.

MissBPotter · 24/03/2023 20:06

I think it’s fairly terrible sorry! Really like Isabella and Isabelle, I have one of those myself in fact. For a seaside-y vibe how about coral or ocean or something?

AnneShirleysNewDress · 24/03/2023 20:08

Reminds me of Steel Magnolias too.

Rebelmcstreettuff · 24/03/2023 20:08

Sorry it's a no from me,reminds me of peaky blinders...Tommy Shelby.
Isabella is lovely though.

stickygotstuck · 24/03/2023 20:09

I know two, early and mid 20s. They are lovely.

toastofthetown · 24/03/2023 20:10

Shelby does feel like the bitchy girl in an American teen movie from the 2000s (or maybe I’ve seen A Cinderella Story too many times). It’s not bad though and fine as a middle name.

Idratherhaveapieceoftoast · 24/03/2023 20:10

Nope.

Shelby
FlounderingFruitcake · 24/03/2023 20:12

Not a fan, I would think GT500 and that you’re massive American muscle car fan.

notthisagainforest · 24/03/2023 20:34

Shelley is nicer

WhisperingAutistic · 24/03/2023 20:48

I think it's awful, sorry
As others have said, it's Peaky Blinders or the really popular toy from the 90s

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/03/2023 20:52

Ok in the middle

FrankandWalters · 24/03/2023 21:18

Ugh, no.

FluffyTrousers · 24/03/2023 21:20

"My colours are blush and bashful"
"Drink your juice, Shelby"
Steel Magnolias...if you love the film you'll recognise the above.

However, it's not a nice name, sorry.

zurala · 24/03/2023 21:21

My male rescue cat came with the name Shelby. It's not even a good name for a cat, let alone a human.

CC4712 · 24/03/2023 21:23

I always thought it sounded very American. Not saying that is good or bad, just my own thought.

I also think of the girl from born to be different, an annual documentary about children with disabilities and learning difficulties.

Personally not a fan, but my opinion is irrelevant to you if you like it.

DustyLee123 · 24/03/2023 21:27

I also think of the girl from Born To Be Different

Dacadactyl · 24/03/2023 21:29

Sorry no I think it's dreadful

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 24/03/2023 21:33

I like it and it makes me think of Julia Roberts character from Steel Magnolias.

OnaBegonia · 24/03/2023 21:41

it makes us think of the sea side and sea shells.
Seriously 🤣🤣
