Which name do you prefer, Kaia or Kiera?

We pronounce them ky-a and keer-a.

We also like these spellings:

Kaya
Keira
Kira

Which name and spelling is best?

How did the Irish name Ciara get mutilated in this way😳

Keira is Scandinavian, and means 'regal'. Nothing to do with the Irish Ciara.

Kaia?

Are we just picking letters out of a scrabble bag now then?

Many decades ago, I knew an elderly European woman (but can't remember her nationality) called Kaja, so I think the name's been around for a bit. It was pronounced like Kaia. Wikipedia (if accurate) lists the Kaja spelling as being used in various countries such as Poland, Slovenia, Scandinavian countries etc, while the Kaia spelling is used in Estonia and Norway. Apparently it can be a diminutive of names like Karolina or Katerina. Again not sure if this is accurate but I don't think it's just a very new made-up name.
