Hi all, could you tell me which (if any!) you like of the following names, and also if you have any suggestions we might like. Sibling is Joshua.
Annie
Hallie
Maisie
Emilia
Rory
Rowan
William
Thanks in advance.

Annie - I think it's super sweet, but would be better with a full name
Hallie - Doesn't seem full for some reason? Not for me
Maisie - Quite sweet and lovely actually
Emilia - Nice although a little overdone
Rory - Gorgeous! One of my favourite boy names
Rowan - Really lovely name too
William - It's alright
I feel like they all go well with Joshua no matter what you choose.
daisydot22 · 17/03/2023 18:04
Annie - lovey! Always makes me think of a cheeky, funny character.
Hallie - pretty, I like it.
Maisie - meh not too keen on this one. Bit wet.
Emilia - again, not great. Very overused.
Rory - love this. Super cute.
Rowan - gorgeous. Was on my boys list.
William - a timeless classic but a bit bland compared to your other boys names.
DramaAlpaca · 17/03/2023 18:13
I think they all go OK with Joshua, but I wouldn't personally choose Maisie or Hallie as they are too cutesy/twee.
Twoinapod · 17/03/2023 19:46
I like Annie and Maisie, I think Maisie goes best with Joshua. Really don’t like Emilia.
rory goes best with Joshua, William is ok. Rowan I can’t understand the love for, it’s awful
Thewolvesarerunningagain · 17/03/2023 19:56
Annie and Hallie are both lovely. Maisie is a bit overdone I think and I'm not keen on Emilia. There are lots of Ellie type names at the moment and I don't think Emilia is the best of the bunch. I'd go for Elena / Eleanor to give the kid the option of Nora/Nell if the local Ellies feel overwhelming. Rowan is a truly lovely name and as such is starting to be appropriated by parents who want a 'soft' unisex name for a girl. That wouldn't bother me personally but alternatively you could consider Ross, Ronan, Roman. Rory is nice. William is timeless and offers a lot of good nicknames.

Nice lists. From your girls names I like Annie best. I like Hallie least but like all the rest.
From your boys list I like William the best as it's a classic choice. I like Rowan the least as it feels too trendy and overdone especially as Roman with an M is now at number 23 in charts and still rising.

From your list... I like Hallie and Maisie for girls and Rowan for a boy
FayCarew · 17/03/2023 20:38
Annie - like it a lot
Hallie - can't see any appeal
Maisie - too twee but not awful
Emilia - too close to Amelia, but nicer
Rory - like it but too many Rs
Rowan - like it but too close to Roman, which I don't like
William - ok
shoopshoopdedoo · 17/03/2023 20:40
I like Annie and Maisie. Love Rory and William.
Emilia is OK. I’m not keen on Hallie or Rowan.
IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/03/2023 21:18
Adore William (biased) as it's a timeless classic - and since Joshua is reasonably classic too that would be my pick for a brother ("Josh" and "Will" make a nice sibset). Rowan is also nice in a soft/gentle sort of way, although not as classic.
For girls I only like Emilia, as I'm personally not keen on diminutives on the BC (so for example I love Anna but less keen on Annie, except as a nn). But Emilia and Joshua sound good together anyway
Mumofgirls2017 · 17/03/2023 21:54

Love Annie, Hallie and William. Rory's lovely too. I think Annie goes best with Joshua out of the girl's names. Congrats, OP!
Ihavehadenoughalready · 18/03/2023 04:05
Anna rather than Annie.
Emilia and Rowan otherwise.

Thanks so much everyone! Lots to think about. And plenty of time, too, as only in the first trimester Really appreciate your input and other suggestions.

I like Emilia but there are a lot of them
I think with a brother called Joshua you want to give her a proper name rather than a diminutive, or she’ll feel short changed, so
Anna / Hannah / Annalise / Rosanna / Susannah nn Annie
Harriet nn Hallie
May / Marianne / Maria / Marguerite nn Maisie
Verity
Zoe
Jessamy
Felicity
Cecilia / Cecily nn Cece
Chloe
Phoebe
Sylvie
Francesca nn Francie / Frankie
Cassia nn Cassie
Edwina
might be others
I like all your boys’s names - but they are popular to the point of overuse, so
Robert nn Robin
Ronan
Patrick
Laurence nn Laurie
Corin
Nicholas / Dominic nn Nico
Toby or Tobias nn Toby
Zachary
Barnaby
might be others
