Love Edie for a little girl, but concerned people would pronounce it differently.

How would you pronounce Edie?

CoconutQueen · 12/03/2023 21:16

Eedie as in short for Edith (eedith).

WelshWondergirl · 12/03/2023 21:18

It's Ee-dee. My best friend has one.

Be prepared to have to correct people all the time. Evie or Eddie are the usual suspects. My friend regrets it a bit because of that.

Briallen · 12/03/2023 21:18

E D

crabette · 12/03/2023 21:56

@WelshWondergirl I think that's my fear, that folk think it's Eddie? It's annoying that that makes your friend question her decision.

It was my nans name. People always pronounced it Eeeee deeee but in Xmas cards and birthday cards people would always write.....Dear Eddie.....god knows why .
Her actual name was Edith actually

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 12/03/2023 22:25

Eeee deee

evemillbank · 12/03/2023 23:05

Id say eee Dee. But the truth is however you want it to be pronounced lots of people with get it wrong because some people will say Eddie.

evemillbank · 12/03/2023 23:06

I think people who do not have English as their first language will always say Eddie.

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/03/2023 23:08

E D

MajorCarolDanvers · 12/03/2023 23:09

Eel dee

ReadersD1gest · 12/03/2023 23:10

I really don't think people will confuse it with Eddie...

tinyme77 · 12/03/2023 23:10

EEE DEE like the footballer Darren Eadie.

ourflagmeansdeath · 12/03/2023 23:40

It's unlikely you'll get a lot of Eddie's tbh, Edie's a common enough name. But do agree that people who don't have English as their first language may mispronounce, a friend of mine only recently learned English and says Evie as Evvy and Ava as Ah-va for instance. But those can be easily corrected and these people would be in the minority so would not be an issue.

xprincessxjanetx · 12/03/2023 23:55
