DS1 is William, usually known as William occasionally known as Billy never will.
Looking for a traditional name for DS2 due next week the only two we can agree on are
• Francis
• Stanley

Not sure if Stanley is too trendy. Please help us to sway one way

Much prefer Stanley.
I always think Francis sounds feminine plus I hate Frank.

Francis is lovely, really classy.

Don’t like Stanley I’m afraid, somehow I envisage a window cleaner in his late 60s with a fag in the corner of his mouth 😂

Francis works much better. I dislike Stanley a lot it's just not a nice name for me and Stan isn't great for a nickname. It isn't feminine at all, Frances is the girl version.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 11/03/2023 15:39

Francis. I do actually know one of each.

dizzydizzydizzy · 11/03/2023 15:41

I know brothers called William and Benjamin. I think it's fine. (And I used to watch Bill and Ben, but the connection never crossed my mind).

Twoinapod · 11/03/2023 16:19

Stanley is much better, Francis seems really feminine to me

James nn Jim/Jimmy?

Billy and Jimmy sound like a good fun pair to me, but William and James are real classics

Robyn83 · 11/03/2023 17:09

My favourite is Francis out of the two but there has been two comments about it being feminine which does worry me

Not keen on Francis and Stanley is ok but a bit trendy in the way older names are now

Marisquita · 11/03/2023 18:13

How about Frederick or Laurence?

xprincessxjanetx · 11/03/2023 22:47

It is genuinely a strong masculine name and has been for centuries. Obviously this may just be my opinion, but I think it's really lovely name and if you truly like it more then Stanley then go for it. Defo don't go for Stanley just because you think Francis is feminine as it isn't. But it really is just the name you prefer the most.

WimbleOfWombledon · 12/03/2023 00:36

I much prefer Francis.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 12/03/2023 00:46

I like both names but slightly prefer Stanley. Great name that is also slightly fun sounding.

Other suggestions you might like: Henry, Gregory, Joseph, Toby, Alex.
