Louis/Louie - no, effeminate
William - love
Hugo - dreadful
Ralph - even more dreadful
Toby - ok. A bit wet.
Albert - another big no

MissyB1 · 08/03/2023 19:22

Louis - ok
William - overly popular and not even that great.
Hugo - like this but much prefer Hugh
Ralph - love it
Toby - no it’s a dogs name
Albert - nooooo!

shoopshoopdedoo · 08/03/2023 19:55

Louis/Louie - really dislike, not sure why, I know lots of people love it!
William - like, classic and not trendy - I don’t meet many baby Williams
Hugo - dislike
Ralph - quite like
Toby - OK
Albert - OK

sillysocks22 · 08/03/2023 20:20

Louis/Louie - love! My favourite
William - I find this name really boring and bland
Hugo - ok, but maybe a bit pretentious
Ralph - also love!
Toby - ok
Albert - quite like this actually

Barleysugar86 · 08/03/2023 20:21

Hugo is so popular at the moment - there are two in our baby class. So would be a no on that one for me.

Albert - I love the nickname Bertie

The others are all lovely. William especially is such a classic.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 08/03/2023 20:22

Pretty mixed responses. Naming babies is so hard.

Louis/Louie - Really love Louis, not so much Louie although I know they're the same pronunciation - Louie just seems off
William - I like Will and I like Liam, just not the full name!
Hugo - Quite like this
Ralph - Also not for me
Toby - Really love this, it's a classic
Albert - No, Bertie is an awful nickname for one

My favourites are Louis, Toby and Hugo

ourflagmeansdeath · 08/03/2023 20:31

What are your favourites OP?

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 08/03/2023 20:33

My favourites are Louis and Toby. My husband really likes ralph but I’m not sure. Hugo is our joint favourite. We both think William is alright but I am not fully convinced.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 08/03/2023 20:33

They're all passable so go with your favourite. I like Albert and William best. I wouldn't go with Hugo because it sounds pretentious unless you have a country pile.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 08/03/2023 20:36

Hugo and William are the only names we can agree on

OP posts:
ourflagmeansdeath · 08/03/2023 20:39

If Hugo is your joint favourite then go with it, there's nothing wrong with it at all. Don't go with William if you both just find it alright. You'll have to compromise so if your DH isn't sure on Louis+Toby and you're not sure on Ralph, then Hugo is the way to go!

CouldIHaveThatInEnglishPlease · 08/03/2023 20:39

Louis/Louie - I’m a teacher and hate having a Louis on the register because I always pronounce it wrong. I’d say it like Louie and they will tell me it’s pronounced Lewis. But it I pronounce it Lewis I will get told it’s actually Louie.

William - safe, classic, but dull

Hugo - my favourite

Ralph - don’t love/don’t hate. It’s ok

Toby - seemed very popular 15years ago. Reminds me of a train from Thomas the Tank Engine. Not a fan

Albert - I like Albert. Old names are becoming trendy now

Twoinapod · 08/03/2023 21:08

I really don’t like Louis/Louie it just seems feminine to me.

william is fine but popular.

Hugo is ok

Ralph I really like but I can’t stop Ralph from the Simpsons popping in my head. It’s the best on your list though.

Toby is nice, popular a few years back. My daughter is 11 and has several in her year

Albert, becoming more popular for reasons I can’t fathom. I just think of a Prince Albert piercing.

barca123 · 08/03/2023 22:23

I think they’re all lovely! My faves are probably Louis and Ralph.

Mumofgirls2017 · 08/03/2023 22:36

I’d go Louis, Ralph or Albert

TheHouseNextDoor · 08/03/2023 22:39

My favourite is Toby / Tobias.

Really dislike Ralph and William is boring.

NuffSaidSam · 08/03/2023 22:42

They're all fine. I don't love any of them.

user1492757084 · 09/03/2023 03:29

William, Louis, Ralph and Hugh, I would use.
My faves being William and Hugh.

Hugo and Toby are okay; though not faves.

Albert is okay but I would never use it. Many people feel the same and so there is a large number of boys called Alby.

Theoldwoman · 09/03/2023 05:00

I love Louis and William.

MissedItByThisMuch · 09/03/2023 05:06

I like them all! Hugo is really nice if that’s your joint favourite. I never understand the “it’s too posh/only if you’ve got a country mansion” comments it always gets on here. There was at least one Hugo, sometimes several in every one of my kids’ years at school, all standard middle class families.
Hugo William is lovely.

RunTowardsTheLight · 09/03/2023 05:09

Love William and Toby

LuckyThatMyBreastsAreSmallAndHumble · 09/03/2023 07:16

Louis/Louie - nice but spell it Louis
William - boring
Hugo - awful
Ralph - penis
Toby - cute
Albert - meh

FayCarew · 09/03/2023 07:56

Louis/Louie - Louis ok, Louie dreadful
William - fine, Will or Billy?
Hugo - prefer Hugh
Ralph - Raif or Ralf? Don't like it
Toby - ok
Albert - not keen, dislike Albie

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/03/2023 22:29

Louis/Louie - Maybe, as if spelt Louis it's a trendy classic (Louie is a No imo). Prefer the sound of Lewis personally though.
William -Yes, timeless classic which isn't as popular now as it used to be (plus lots of nn choice and amazing historical namesakes too)
Hugo - Okay, but very faddy/trendy now. Yes to Hugh however, which is really lovely and underused.
Ralph - No, horrible sound imo (unless pronounced Rafe, but that's quite U)
Toby- Maybe, it's cute but a bit childish sounding to me, so would use Tobias on the BC personally
Albert- No, trendy but not very nice sounding retro name imo. Similar Alfred at least has a nicer sound (and "the Great" namesake) or I'd go for more classic Robert if you want Bertie.
