Thoughts on cormac? Pronounced COR-mac

I ask because several people misspell it with a K on the end. but we hoped it was the sweet spot between familiar and unusual!

I know a Cormac. Spelled the same as you say. No issues as far as I know.

Enko · 05/03/2023 02:31

It's OK. Surprised at the k spelling issue. Have only experienced it with the c ending.

RotundBeagle · 05/03/2023 03:20

Sounds a bit like a building product I'd see at Travis Perkins if I'm honest.

Tannedandfake · 05/03/2023 03:40

I like it

PangoBakery · 05/03/2023 03:46

Love it

I'd blame people thinking of 'Lee Mack' for the incorrect spelling.

Twoinapod · 05/03/2023 04:54

The only one I’ve heard of is from Harry Potter. I wouldn’t worry too much about misspelling, my DD has a very common name that gets misspelled.

greenspaces4peace · 05/03/2023 04:57

i've heard this name, same spelling but associate it with a business.
not sure what kind of business something industrial though.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 05/03/2023 07:39

I love Cormac and think most people would spell it correctly (I'm in scotland)

Snugglemonkey · 05/03/2023 08:18

I love it, one of my favourite names.

Borris · 05/03/2023 08:22

I think of the company that maintain the roads. But that might be dependent on where you live. I’m aware it’s a proper name too but it’s the road people that spring to mind for me.

If you have any Cornish connections, you'll find that you're naming your child after Cornwall Council's arm's length company, responsible for road repairs etc!!

I see it as a very Irish name. I like it.

CastleTower · 05/03/2023 08:55

Love it, except if your last name starts with C/K (in which case it can end up sounding like korma).

Good shout.

I've only seen it with the C

sonjadog · 05/03/2023 09:14

Cormac is a great name. Irish, but also easy to spell.

WhisperingAutistic · 05/03/2023 09:17

It sounds very Irish which is obviously not an issue if that's what you are going for.
It also reminds me of the chocolate, Caramac.

derbylass81 · 05/03/2023 09:20

I didn't realise it was a name in itself, I've only ever heard of the surname McCormack. Also also Cormac the council / roads people.
So I'm not very familiar with it, but don't dislike it.

PhotoDad · 05/03/2023 09:23

Cormac has religious overtones for me, but only because the first one I met was a Roman Catholic bishop (who went on to become Cardinal). Solid name, easy to pronounce.

percypercypercy · 05/03/2023 09:24

I really like it

Cleebope2 · 05/03/2023 09:30

Definitely, regret not calling my ds that and he wishes I had too!

pnutter · 05/03/2023 09:38

Love it

daisypond · 05/03/2023 10:38

I really like it. I’d have thought it was quite a well known name, even if not so common these days.

ourflagmeansdeath · 05/03/2023 13:28

I always think of the Harry Potter character!

ShakeYourFeathers · 05/03/2023 18:59

It's a no from me. It's the local highway agency road maintenance company
