Flora or Abigail or ?

After being utterly convinced I was carrying a boy, it has just been confirmed that it is actually a girl Whilst we were pretty set on a boy name, we are really struggling to agree on any girl names mainly because DH rejects them all...

Our top two names so far are Flora or Abigail (but I don't love Abi). Other names on our maybe list less are Isla, Olivia, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Eve.

Some of the names I like that DH has rejected are Maisie, Mabel, Clara and Martha.

Any thoughts on Flora / Abigail or any other suggestions are much appreciated!

I like flora it’s on my list too and if you both agree on it and she feels like a Flora when she arrives then go for it. I also have Elizabeth, Mabel and Martha. A selection of my other names (girls list is very long 😂)

Flora and Abigail are both lovely. Of the two, I prefer Flora.
Abigail could be Gail if you don't like Abi.

Isla, Olivia, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Eve are all nice enough, but Olivia, Isla and Evie have been overpopular for ages too the point of being dull.
Elizabeth and Charlotte are both safe, pleasant classics.

Out of Maisie, Mabel, Clara and Martha, I only like Martha. Maisie is a bit twee. Clara and Mabel sound frumpy.

Definitely, Flora, it's one of my favourite names.

Glad to hear the pro-Flora consensus. We are probably leaning there but just didn't feel quite as 'safe' as our other names. Lovely list autumn - we have similar tastes!

If you don't like Abi I wouldn't go for Abigail.

I do love Charlotte though.

Isla/Olivia/Eve have been absolutely done to death. The playground is full of Evie’s, it’s boring.

Is it the spelling or sound of Abi you don't like?

I know an Abigail who has always been Abby because her parents didn't like Abi. Appreciate that is unhelpful if it's the sound you don't like though!

She's also Abigail Elizabeth so similar vibe!

How about Lurpak? Nearly as valuable at a Ruby or Jade nowadays!
Flora is a cheap substitute!

Flora isn't butter in any shape or form

I LOVE Flora. Flora reminds me of the saint, or the character from the Turn of the Screw, never the butter. Find it odd that it’s mentioned so often on here as it sounds like a non-issue to me!

Flora is nice. I’m not a fan of Abigail, though it’s perfectly OK too. Of your other names, I like Elizabeth, Charlotte and Eve. I really love Mabel and Martha - shame your husband isn’t on board!

I know! He is convinced Mabel is old-fashioned and that she would be the only baby Mabel around, despite me showing him that it is in the top 100!

I like Abigail but also don’t like Abbey/Abi. Flora would be ‘safe’ from a shortening point of view.

I know a grown up Abigail who is an Ab, never anything else, and a 10 year old Abigail who has never been an Abbie/Abi/Abby. So you can do it.
