Stuck on deciding name for second daughter. First daughter is Emmeline and Emmy for short. Middle name will be Anne.

Shortlist at the moment is:
Freya
Talitha (Tally)
Francesca
Juniper
Isobel
Elsbeth (Elsie/Elle/Beth/Betsy not sure which is best)

Last minute indecision!

Francesca

For me Talitha and Freya don't sound well with Anne.
The double 'a' in the middle is clumsy.

Freya Ann

What about Frances Ann? Love the name Frances!

FayCarew · 25/02/2023 06:32

I agree with @user1492757084 . They'll get said as Freyuh Ran and Talithuh Ran.
Ann is lovely but dull as a middle name.

Lion1618 · 25/02/2023 08:32

Francesca is my favourite but I also like Juniper. Francesca has some good nicknames (although really dislike Fran!) like Frankie, Cesca and Chessie which all sound nice with Emmy. Juni is adorable as a nickname.

Prego5972 · 25/02/2023 09:06

A friend of mine actually has two girls named Emmy and Elsie! They obviously go really well together. She loved the idea of the similar sounding names as well as the E and E. Thats my vote!

I like Elspeth nn Elsie or Beth best because I like the name and the shortenings. Although I'm assuming Elspeth rather than Elsbeth.

Isobel is a great name but has been so popular for ages and there are a lot of Issys, Belles and Bellas and Elles etc. I like Talitha but not so keen on Tally (I just hear "Tally-ho" in my head). Francesca is the kind of name I'd have loved as a teen as so long and dramatic. But I'm not so keen on the shortenings. I'm not sure I go a bundle on Juniper although it's nice to have a tree name rather than flowers all the time. But it makes me think of "Juniper bushes!" which makes me laugh. I suppose it shortens to June? I prefer Rowan or Ash as treenames.

PritiPatelsMaker · 25/02/2023 14:11

I totally missed that it was Elsbeth and not Elspeth. I'm guessing that might be a common issue for your DD if you choose that name.

From your list I like Talitha or Betsy.

ReadtheReviews · 25/02/2023 15:47

Think Isobel goes best with Emmeline. But do prefer Freya.

ourflagmeansdeath · 25/02/2023 15:50

Freya - Love this name, super pretty.
Talitha (Tally) - I like Talith or Tanith. Talitha seems made up for me.
Francesca - LOVE this name, Fran Anne is much but not Francesca Anne.
Juniper - Really pretty I think. Unique too.
Isobel - Lovely name! Goes well with Emmeline
Elsbeth (Elsie/Elle/Beth/Betsy not sure which is best) - I do like it's just a bit of a mix of another names if you see what I mean - Elspeth and Elizabeth sorta?? I do like it though, it'd just get misheard ALL the time. Love Beth for a nickname.

stirfryer · 25/02/2023 19:03

Thanks for all the responses. So much to think about! We are keener on the 'B' spelling of Elspeth as I think it sounds slightly nicer but we also love Beth as an option for shortening if she likes that when older. I believe the origin of the name is just a shortened version of Elizabeth, from googling it seems it's a viable alternative to the P spelling.

We do really like Isobel too, it's just maybe a little too often used, we quite like being a bit different but then Elsie is top 20 so that would be mainstream too.

I like that Talitha is totally different but agree it doesn't go as well with Anne. Not planning to change the middle name as this one has a lot of meaning.

@ourflagmeansdeath , Talitha was probably made up by whoever wrote the New Testament. Far too modern.

Isobel Anne.
I personally would use 'Belle' as the nn although Izzy is still nice.

Until your latest update I was voting Talitha and I do still think Talitha Anne is fine.

PoorMrsNorris · 25/02/2023 20:21

You could have Natalia nn Tallie? I think that's nicer.
Emmy and Tallie

Penelope is also an elegant name with loads of nickname potential...
Nell
Nella
Poppy
Penny
Etc

hlc123 · 25/02/2023 20:24

Love them all except juniper but think Elsbeth Anne is lovely

Compeedcoldsore · 25/02/2023 20:26

I'd have thought Talitha was pronounced Taleetha (despite having a Tabitha in my family who is not Tabeetha).

I know a couple of Francescas who are known as Chessie. I wouldn't worry about the 'an' sound, because you are never going to introduce her to anyone by her whole name.

The problem with Elsbeth is that she will spend her whole life saying Elsbeth with a B, not Elspeth with a P.

I wouldn't worry about names "going with" one another. My DC all have 'family' middle names (three each), and I gave no thought at all to whether all the names 'went well' together. They all have the first names that I love more than any other names in the world, so perhaps you should think about which name you actually love and then use that?

BeStrongLittleRodney · 25/02/2023 20:27

Freya or Francesca, with Juniper as a middle name

Sorry!! Not very experienced with the Bible, I'm a Hindu, just haven't heard the name before.

ShillyShallySherbet · 26/02/2023 00:13

Francesca is my favourite but all lovely names

Wrongsideofpennines · 26/02/2023 08:25

Talitha is lovely - its usually pronounced with the 'ee' sound in the middle. I don't like Tally as a nickname though. But Talitha and Freya both have the double A issue in the middle with A which might not work so well. Not keen on Francesca either - I think its more a name of my generation than a baby now.

I really like Juniper and like Juno or Juni as nicknames. Elspeth would be more common but Elsbeth is definitely a name and I really like how many nicknames you can choose from. Elsie and Emmy sound perfect together.
