I love them both :) Which do you prefer?

(wouldn’t want Annie to be a nn for a longer name)

Annie. I don't like Amelie, can't see the appeal, and Amelia is so overused.

Anne

PictureNotPerfect · 23/02/2023 10:53

Amelie

HVPRN · 23/02/2023 10:56

Annie 💯

Sandysandwich · 23/02/2023 10:56

Annie, its pretty and less popular than Amélie or Amelia and if she is growing up in the UK it can be difficult habing a name with an accented letter- as it will often be missed off or people use the wrong one.
My cousin is Chloë and its normally written with a regular e, but sometimes é or ē or ė.

DramaAlpaca · 23/02/2023 11:02

Annie, by far.

Amelie only sounds nice in a French accent.

SalviaOfficinalis · 23/02/2023 11:03

Definitely Annie.

This was my first thought too about using accented names in the uk to be honest.

Annie is lovely.

Amelie just reminds me of that infuriatingly twee film.

Whereas Annie has a warm and solid vibe (let’s not mention Annie Wilkes from Misery).

Snugglemuffins4me · 23/02/2023 11:05

Love Annie it’s my little girls best friend name

Love Annie.

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 23/02/2023 11:17

Annie by a mile

NoraLuka · 23/02/2023 11:17

Def Annie but I may be biased because I hate the film Amélie. Amélie is nice in itself though.

Bibbitybobbityboot · 23/02/2023 11:18

Annie 100%. There are so many Amelias and Amelies around and Annie is much nicer.

Mummyof287 · 23/02/2023 11:18

Love amelie, it's our neices name.So classic and pretty x

FordCreek · 23/02/2023 11:19

No contest. Annie.

I'd probably go for Anna, Annie for short. I'm normally a fan of nicknamey names as full names as for myself my name feels like it's my identity and it's a bit of a pain in school to have different names to what you're known as on the register. But with the name Annie, it is so much associated as being a shortening and not a full name that I think it would be more straightforward at school and it would perhaps be nice to have a more "grownup" version if she wanted to use it - especially as Anna is so nice. Otherwise it would just go to Ann I suppose. Which is I don't think is half as nice as Anna, which is a really beautiful name to my ear. I also like Anya. There are a lot of Amelia's and I'm not the biggest fan of that just from a sound point of view. I prefer Amelie but there do seem to be a lot of Amelias so depends if that is an issue for you.

florafloss · 23/02/2023 11:36

Love Annie. Not so keen on Amelie.

Purpletopaz42 · 23/02/2023 12:35

I really like Amelie, it's a lovely sounding name and one of my favourites.

WhenYouWalkThroughTheGarden · 23/02/2023 12:37

Annie. I may be biased because my lovely, awesome, strong, caring, funny and smart mum is one.

Annie

MissWings · 23/02/2023 13:38

No contest. Annie is a far superior name.

ElizaSkye · 23/02/2023 14:22

I love both , but I’d agree that Amelie is a very common sound when you consider how many Amelia’s there are

StopFeckingFaffing · 23/02/2023 14:36

I like them both but would opt for Annie as I think it's an easier name to carry off

For some reason I would expect an Amelie to be beautiful, sophisticated, glamourous or exotic looking so would find it a hard name to live up to (since I am none of the above!)
