Gentle giant name for a boy?

Cocolatte24 · 17/02/2023 16:57

I recently had a son and we’re struggling to find a name; he’s a gentle giant and super tall so I’d like to find a name that suits a larger baby and is quite soft/ round sounding if that makes sense?

I’m looking for any ideas and also ones that lend themselves to a nickname

So far we’ve thought about Henry and Barney but I’m not sure how I’d shorten Henry - I don’t like Harry or Hal, and Barney just reminds us of the purple dinosaur!

Any ideas?

Gabriel. It's a name I've always loved, for Gabriel Oak in 'Far from the Madding Crowd'. He was a big, kind, gentle man.

I know several people with tiny or skinny lads that were massive at birth 😂

Why would you shorten Henry? It's only two syllables.

Twoinapod · 17/02/2023 18:10

I know of several barneys, none have issues with the dinosaur. It’s a nice name. The dinosaur thing seems to be a much bigger issue on MN than in real life. If you did have anyone that first thought dinosaur that association would be quickly replaced with your son.

also I think most little kids would love to have the same name as a dinosaur.

Henry is also lovely and doesn’t need shortening

Another vote for Finn.

DS has always been very long/tall. He is called Sam. He's not gentle though!! You really can't tell the characteristics of a child from a baby so young he's not even been named yet.

You need a name that’ll work for the average sized man, as well as a large cuddly baby. Because he’s going to be a man much longer than he is a baby. And you don’t know how big he’ll be when fully grown.

This! He's not a giant yet, and may never be.

My DH was an enormous baby but is a normal sized man.

Posted too soon...

Anyway DS is blond and tall and has some Northern European ancestry. His tiny half Asian cousins call him Viking. So I am voting Erik. Erik the Viking.

My adult son is 6ft7 and an XXL. Hes also a early years nursery practitioner for children with SEN. He is a gentle giant in every manner and his name is Luke.
