How to choose between your top 2?!

Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have two names like we like for our boy who is due in a few weeks.

Any tips on how to choose?!

The names are Benedikt and Albert.

My husband is German, I'm a Brit, we live in Germany.
Middle name might be Markus, but that's not set yet.

Third on the list is Alfred.

Help!

Thanks :-)

I like Albert best. Dont like Alfred at all. Is Benedikt the German spelling for Benedict.

Which do you think flows better with your surname?

I was I a similar situation, but when she arrived and she was in my arms, and I tried out both, it was apparent which one suited her best!

with 2 would wait til he arrives..... you may decide which suits straight away....or may take a while...

all good names so woll be a winner either way!

I like Albert best. Benedikt is nice
Benedikt Markus sounds complicated.
Albert Markus is easier to say.
Alfred is not as attractive.

KangarooKenny · 17/02/2023 13:07

I would see which he looks like.

I prefer Benedikt

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 17/02/2023 13:13

Wait until he's born and see what suits him. That's what I did. 3x girls names. 3x boys names both times.

Ds2 ended up with something else entirely Grin

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 17/02/2023 13:41

Definitely not by asking Mumsnet which they prefer. 😆

Wait until you meet him! We took 2 or 3 names "to hospital" with us for DD, choosing after we met her honestly was very special.

Lovely names btw.

I like Benedikt better. I was in school with a Benedict, I thought it was really nice.

Wait till you see him

  1. How about testing the different names out aloud with your surname. Because sometimes we think of baby names in our minds but when actually spoken aloud a few times it can be very different to what you thought. Also get partner saying the names aloud too, so you get to hear what the names sound like by others saying it.
  1. Maybe you could use your X3 names you both like: Albert Markus Benedikt with your surname.
  1. If can't choose a name:
Make a short list of your chosen full names and then once your baby is here, have a special moment of choosing from your listed names. Dont forget to add some names choices with Alfred in it too. :)

I like Benedikt (although I prefer the anglicised spelling of Benedict)

I think I might go for Albert in your shoes, simply because Benedikt (with that spelling) and Markus are both very 'German' and Albert has something of a tradition in the UK as well so reflects your heritage too. Also, Albert Einstein is a fine namesake.
