Arthur or Alistair?

Narrowed it down to two, DH prefers Arthur slightly more and I prefer Alistair slightly more, which do you prefer?

Also, although we really like both t
names, we're not as keen on Art, Artie, Al, Ally, so if anyone has any nickname suggestions that would be great, thank you.

Alistair definitely, but it has several spellings.
Arthur is too popular

Just use the full name

JehovahsWildebeest · 16/02/2023 16:31

So many Arthurs at the moment, it's boring. Alistair is lovely and due a revival imo.

Rauha · 16/02/2023 16:32

Alistair

Amdone123 · 16/02/2023 16:33

Alistair

PurpleReindeer2 · 16/02/2023 16:35

Arthur Alistair Surname would work well.

Roterosen · 16/02/2023 16:59

Alistair because Arthur is sooo boring from overuse

CastleTower · 16/02/2023 17:00

Alistair.

How about a J middle name, and he can be AJ?

StopFeckingFaffing · 16/02/2023 17:01

Love them both but would definitely choose Alistair due to current popularity of Arthur

Arthur must be close to being no. 1 UK boy's name

Roterosen · 16/02/2023 17:02

Arthur will soon start to sound very dated as it falls out of fashion

Alistair is much more timeless

Floralnomad · 16/02/2023 17:04

Alistair , brilliant name .

Hadtocomment · 16/02/2023 17:59

If it's between Art/Artie or Al/Ally, I far prefer Al/Ally, if that's any help.

Roterosen · 16/02/2023 18:00

Definitely not Artie - Artie Fartie Blush

ourflagmeansdeath · 16/02/2023 19:19

Think I'm the only one who prefers Arthur. Don't like Alistair very much unfortunately and I think Arthur's absolutely beautiful. Would have named my DS it but DH vetoed.

DramaAlpaca · 17/02/2023 00:14

I like both, but have a slight preference for Alistair.

Muu · 17/02/2023 00:39

Alistair

PremiumB · 17/02/2023 00:47

I love Alistair. I much prefer it and surprised it isn’t used more

PritiPatelsMaker · 17/02/2023 07:53

I really do adore Arthur but I think I'd go for Alistair as Arthur has gained in popularity so much in recent years.

Like always though, things things are regional so we might have lots of little Arthur's where we live and you might not have any Wink

AppleKatie · 17/02/2023 07:55

Arthur.

whilst it is currently popular it’s such an old and established name I don’t believe it will ‘date’ him.

Mercurial123 · 17/02/2023 08:13

Definitely Alistair, it's a classic Scottish name. Don't like Arthur.

Liesel65 · 17/02/2023 08:29

I have an Alastair (half Scottish) so biased ! But beautiful name 😉

2crossedout1 · 17/02/2023 08:31

Alistair

Klex · 17/02/2023 08:33

The second one but spelled the proper way - Alasdair.

itsalwayscycling · 17/02/2023 08:37

Just to say I know lots of Alasdairs and after early primary school they are ALL called Ali or All (at least round here). So if you really don’t like that shortening it’s something to bear in mind.

MajorCarolDanvers · 17/02/2023 08:43

Alistair - good Scottish name.

Most of those I know shorten it to Ally

Belladonna208 · 17/02/2023 08:51

Alistair - good strong traditional name especially in Scotland, lots of different spellings too.
