What do you think? I love it, but worry it sounds a bit disney / frilly / cheap?

Beautiful.

Roterosen · 16/02/2023 17:59

You want honesty? Yes, I do find Jasmine tacky and Disney like.

DahliaMacNamara · 16/02/2023 18:41

The first Jasmine I ever knew was born in the 1930s. I don't get the Disney association. It's just a normal name. It's not as if you want to call her Cinderella.
As for the snobbery about 16-year-old school leavers, ugh.
I think it's a lovely name.

You're right, my snobbery doesn't reflect well on me. But that's honestly my gut instinct on Jasmine. And Jade, too, FWIW.

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/02/2023 21:00

It’s a beautiful name, so pretty.

Bingoflings · 16/02/2023 21:04

It's lovely but it's also been used as a scent on too many clothes washing detergents.
I prefer Yasmine.

YouveGotRedOnYou1 · 16/02/2023 21:11

Nice name. Don't think it sounds frilly at all. It makes me think of an intelligent, confident woman. But I suppose everyone links names to their own experience of them.

Starryskiesinthesky · 16/02/2023 21:13

Lovely name. Not too frilly / tacky at all.

Fordian · 16/02/2023 21:33

Nope, a bit tacky. Which is mad, seeing as Rose is a 'classy' name!

pilates · 16/02/2023 21:35

I like it

WhisperingAutistic · 16/02/2023 21:35

A really pretty sounding name. I like it a lot.

Mumskisail · 16/02/2023 21:36

Beautiful name

Judgyjudgy · 16/02/2023 21:37

Very pretty

FairytaleofNewHampshire · 16/02/2023 21:45

I really like it. I know one who's eight. I also know one who is mid thirties but she spells it without the E on the end

SummerWinds · 16/02/2023 21:49

I really like it, along with Jasmina and Yasmeenah.

DramaAlpaca · 17/02/2023 00:13

Gorgeous name

Muu · 17/02/2023 00:38

i love it.

Rosecherry · 17/02/2023 00:39

I think the name Jasmine is adorable!

Honestly I do not think this name sounds frilly / cheap / or over the top Disney.

It's a super sweet name for a little girl I think.

I agree. Rose is classy but Jasmine isn't....!

It's a very pretty name. Not tacky, no.

Have you considered the older English version, Jessamine (or Jessamyn)? Even prettier IMO and then you have the option of the short form 'Jess', which is nicer than Jazz I think.

Just remembered a book I read yonks ago, Jessamy not 100% sure on the spelling but I thought it was lovely and unusual then..and I still do actually

Northlights22 · 17/02/2023 15:09

The thing is you will ALWAYS no matter what name get someone disliking it or saying it’s tacky, no matter what the name is especially on MN who have a warped perception of names.

I love it

Kids' book? I remember that too! Although not the plot or anything.

Yes those Jessamine, Jessamyn, Jessamy names are all pretty and a bit different.

schoolsoutforever · 17/02/2023 15:31

I like it and have taught a few very nice Jasmines over the years. As others have said it was popular about 20years ago but who cares? It will just mean that she isn’t one of five in a class.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 17/02/2023 15:32

Beautiful name & is not common .
