Or only as a nickname for Winifred?

Or Winona. (I wouldn't want to give a child a nickname like Winnie that constrains choices of adult name. Other than Winnie, there nothing else they can be called...)

AnotherCountryMummy · 16/02/2023 04:08

I love it as a standalone!

northernlola · 16/02/2023 04:36

I know a Winnie! It's great on her. Go for it.

sashh · 16/02/2023 05:05

In Snowpiercer there is a Winnie, short for Winnipeg.

I was at school with a Fred, she was actually a Winnifred but it really suited her.

Winnie is a nick name and very sweet.
Winsome
Winona
Winifred
Edwina
I like Winsome and Edwina best.

I don't think I'm an adult yet...

my first thought was why would you saddle a child with a name connected with pooh and rotundness... kids can be cruel.

I do think it is a lovely nickname, but would not use it as a full name.

Nor me, my first thought was 'is the middle name Bago'

As a nm I think it is sweet but would definitely require a proper name.

Rauha · 16/02/2023 11:42

Yes, I think Winnie is a lovely name.

SpinningFloppa · 16/02/2023 12:07

Yeh I know someone called Winnie

ourflagmeansdeath · 16/02/2023 12:58

I'm so sorry but it just sounds like whiny to me. As a nickname though it's sweet, but consider putting a fuller name on the BC.

KirstenBlest · 16/02/2023 12:58

Winifred is nice

MintyGreenDreams · 16/02/2023 13:22

I like Winniw but she would get Winnie the Pooh at school

MintyGreenDreams · 16/02/2023 13:22

Winnie

SpinningFloppa · 16/02/2023 13:23

Is Winnie the Pooh even popular these days my 5 years old wouldn’t know what it was

Yep, we read the stories in quiet time at school, and watch the films and read the stories to my nieces' kids.

TallulahBetty · 16/02/2023 13:28

Sounds like a 60-year-old to me.

VickerishAllsort · 16/02/2023 13:36

Winnie is a charlady from a 60s sitcom in one of those floral wrap-around pinnies.

octoberfarm · 16/02/2023 13:36

I'd use it as a nickname for Winter if it were me, but I do know someone who's used it as a full name for their little girl.

knightsinwhitesatin · 16/02/2023 13:39

Wynne is a Welsh name, I really like it, was on my list for DD, with nickname Winnie

BoldandBright · 16/02/2023 13:42

Yes! Very sweet name, looked after a couple of Winnie’s during my time in Education and never had any issues with teasing as far as I’m aware. Certainly has been gaining in popularity the last few years.

KirstenBlest · 16/02/2023 13:51

Wynne is usually a boy's name and it's the anglicised form of Wyn. Wyn's ok but not for a girl

Baby4due2023 · 01/04/2023 13:42

i have loved this name for a long time.

I have 3 boys and currently pregnant with my first girl and naming her is proving to be extremely difficult. I thought it was hard for boys but I actually had my boys name picked this time. Iv never been this far along and still not decided a name so to say I’m stressing is an understatement. I just don’t want to regret it.

so for a while now our choice was Hattie, but I can’t help think about the other names I really like.

my list is
Hattie
Goldie
Hazel
Beatrice
Winnie
and Daphne

what are peoples thoughts? My partner wants Hattie like originally decided but something just doesn’t feel 100 percent even tho I do really like it

thoughts welcome x

I know a Winnie, and they got moaning Minnie at school. She hates her name.

KeepingTheWaterOut · 03/04/2023 09:57

The Winnie I know is short for Williamina.

WhatFreshHeckle · 03/04/2023 10:14

Yes, I think it's fine.

Winifred is great though imo and Winona is nice too. All nice names though and you don't meet too many Winnies
