Brother for Sam and Henry

Totally stuck, trying to find a name for a third boy! Really wanted something one or two syllables, a bit more modern but not wild.
Considering:
Elliot - put off by it being 3 syllables
Noah - but we’re v atheist
Arthur - worried it’s all too old man/Tudor with Henry
Alexander - not super excited by Alex but feels safe.

Can’t use Finn, Leo or Oscar. Any ideas or thoughts welcome!

I'm not much use, but Sam and Henry are the brothers in The Last of Us TV show lol!! Maybe make sure you don't use any more names from there to avoid association (although it is a fab show!). So like no Joel, Tommy etc. But I don't think it would matter too much if you did.

I also don't think Noah would be an issue even if you were an atheist. I know many non Christian families who have boys called Noah. Go for it if you like it, it goes well with Sam and Henry. And I wouldn't do Arthur with Henry. But I do love Alex, and I like Noah too!!

Alex is lovely and will stand the test of time , working for little ones, teens and adults and goes well with the sibling names.

StrawHatOnTheParcelShelf · 16/02/2023 00:29

I don't think Max and Sam work together, it's basically the same name in reverse!

I have similarly named kids OP and had there been a 3rd boy, Austin and Reuben were my top picks.

I think you need to go for a solid sensible sort. James is a good shout but basically anything you could imagine someone being called 500 years ago. William maybe?

I was sort of hoping for something more modern this time but I do like Will - just too much like the princes with Henry!

Keep coming back to Jack, just had hoped for something a bit different. I love love Finn but can’t use it and I guess Jack has similar vibes

You realise that Sam is a biblical name? Short for Samuel and also Samson.

Suggestions:
Oscar
Finn
Jude
Jonah
William
Max
Edward

Sam means ‘told of god’ and Henry means ‘power/ ruler’

So maybe go for similar meaning names
Alexander ( Alex ) means defender of men
Frederick ( Fred ) means ruler of mankind

Other thought
Francis ( Fran ) patron saint of animals
Angus
Benedict ( Ben ) patron saint of education, Europe, the downtrodden, homeless

If your torn between names look up what they mean, that might swing your choice one way or the other.

Joe- that was my best choice of boy name. Strong and simple.

Ally is not a nickname for alistair. Don't consider that at all. I love Ally but potentially only for a girl

Random anecdote..
My 16 yr old son here in the USA has a best friend called Basil (pronounced Bay-sil). He is Greek Orthodox and Basil is a big saint in the Eastern Church. I have never met another Basil in my life. I guess Basil Fawlty killed the name in the U.K.!

Crap I'm sorry I was so rude. Ally was my top name years ago, but could only work it for a girl in my head, but loved the name. I had a boy called alex, based on ally as my best name. Just couldn't work it for me, or Al for short. But that was only my opinion of ally can become a boys name I'd love it x

Haven’t you heard of Ally McCoist? It’s a really common nickname for Alastair. That aside I agree with you that Joe is perfect for OP’s DC3.

TerfIngOnTheBeach · 16/02/2023 04:46

I actually came on to say Arthur and saw it in your First post.

perfect choice.
