I'm pregnant with my second boy, due in April. I've always really liked the name Valentine for a boy.
Opinions please?

It's a lovely name but i would not use it on my child no.

Chocchops72 · 15/02/2023 15:04

Valentine is very much a girls name in France, quite a popular one. Valentin is the male version.

IglesiasPiggl · 15/02/2023 15:04

I think it's a name that only comes into its own in adulthood, so it would be a no for me. It invites too much ridicule in childhood.

QuietlyConfident · 15/02/2023 15:06

I love it but it's quite a "brave" choice.

Justcallmebebes · 15/02/2023 15:07

Not for me, no. I know a couple of Spanish female Valentinas, but not keen on that either tbh

SpinningFloppa · 15/02/2023 15:11

No

jannier · 15/02/2023 15:46

I think he will be bullied. How do you feel about the obvious shortening to Val? Personally I'd hate that too.

Pinkdafodils · 15/02/2023 16:41

I love Valentine for a boy.

Also like Valentina for a girl

SnottyLottie · 15/02/2023 16:43

I really like it but would probably use it as a middle name

unstoppable1 · 15/02/2023 16:44

I like Valentino but it's one of those names I like but would never use.

What's there to bully? And.what's wrong with Val?

William nickname Willy or Teddie are names that might get teased. But I can't see anything wrong with Valentine

Because children will infer he is a girl no matter how he chooses to identify that implication will cause him to be laughed at. My brother is a Noel...here comes Christmas ding ding etc. Flora was hi Marg spread it about do you? Kids are cruel

So1invictus · 15/02/2023 20:15

I've not taught many Valentinos but I've yet to meet one that likes it.
I imagine Valentine will be the same tbh.

ThatshallotBaby · 15/02/2023 20:16

I love it. I also like Valentin.

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/02/2023 23:50

Behave.

Victor is nice. Or Constantine.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 15/02/2023 23:53

I like it. It reminds me of Poldark's son.

ourflagmeansdeath · 16/02/2023 01:22

He won't be able to make it through a single Valentine's Day without getting commented on, but you could work through it! Not for me, I prefer Valentino but it is still a fairly lovely name.

Saturnsmoon · 16/02/2023 01:25

I like it and know one who is now in his thirties. I’ve known him since he was a teen and don’t think he had any issues with bullying (no more than anybody else anyway) but can’t speak for when he was a younger.

Whywere · 16/02/2023 01:32

Yes you definitely should. It’s a really good way to make sure he will never leave home and you will have someone to look after you in your old age.

Mommawasafarmgirl · 16/02/2023 01:34

No

LazyDaisy89 · 16/02/2023 03:37

I know a child Valentine who has no problems with his name, very happy and popular child!

Probably no issues from kids, they don't care . If he got through childhood without the older people having an input that's all rhat matters to me. Children are massively accepting. They only aren't because adults tell them otherwise

TessoftheDubonnet · 16/02/2023 03:47

Please don't do this to your son!
