Roxana pronunciation

How would you pronounce Roxana?

I’m after the long ‘Rox-Ah-Na’ pronunciation rather than the shorter ‘Rox-Anna’.

It’s for a middle name, if that makes a difference!

That spelling - I'd say Rox AhNar, basically what you said.

Roxanna - that's "anna".

Rox-ah-na. I really like it. There is also the Roksana spelling I have come across before

Pinkdafodils · 14/02/2023 15:57

Roxana is pronounced as it's spelled - Rox-a-na

Roxanna and Roxanne are different of course

TheOriginalEmu · 14/02/2023 15:58

I wouldn’t be sure, but I’d probably go with Roxahhna.

This comes up all the time. It’s to do with whether you speak with a rhotic accent or not. In non-rhotic accents like mine Ah and Ar are the same sound. The poster just means a long ah sound.

Rox-ah-na

Isitisit · 14/02/2023 16:10

Like you want it OP

I would read it as Rox-Anna. Does it really matter if it’s a middle name? I can’t think of a single person except my mum and husband who even knows what my middle name is!

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/02/2023 16:48

The one I know is Roxana pronounced Rox-an-uh with a short a. But she is 50ish - I think you‘ d be more likely to get the arna from a single n these days, because of lots of E European names knocking about
