Baby is one week old
Love the name Teddy nn Ted
Can't decide 😕??
Anyone know a Teddy do they use it as teenagers adults etc

If you love the name then why not use it - you haven’t mentioned why you can’t decide?

Teddy is nice, Ted is cool, Edward or Theodore good if you want a formal option too.

My Edward has always been Ted or Teddy in the family, but most of his work colleagues call him Ed. I think it is definitely better to have a name with more “grown up” options as they get older

Edward, Edgar, Edwin, Edmund or Theodore and then Teddy as a nickname. He won’t always be a week old.

DD has a Teddy in her year at school, but says he is really an Edward which seems sensible - up to him then if he wants to use Edward when he gets older.

It's your child so name them what you would like to, there's always going to be some that love and some that hate whatever it is.

No awful. Edward or Edwin or Edmund or Theodore and maybe call them Teddy.

How do people get Teddy from Edward? I could understand Tedward, but surely Edward naturally shortens to Ed or Eddy??

Go with Edward on the birth certificate, you can use Teddy as his "known as" name. That way if he's not keen on it as a teenager he has options. You can get lots of good diminutives from Edward.

I know a 21 year old Teddy - suits him and causes him no problems. I also know a Ted in his 40s - it might be something else on BC but he is only ever known as Ted, even at work. If you like Teddy go for it - by the time he is older there will be so many grown Teddys about no one will bat an eye. Congratulations on you baby!

Know lots of babies names Teddy locally. Also dogs (especially cockerpoo type dogs).

I agree, use Edward, Edwin, etc

My great uncle is Ted, not Edward. He’s 93, definitely a grown man. It really suits him. He carried the name down so in my family we have Teds who are 93, late 60s, 36 & 5. All suit the name. Congratulations on your little boy!

I have a Ted. Registered as Ted- he's 10 now and we have called him Ted or Teddy throughout his childhood. He recently asked me to call him Teddy. It suits him completely. I didn't like Edward or Theodore etc. I still love it 10 years on.

I don't think there are issues for a teenager. I imagine he will call himself Ted which is not much different from Ed! And then as an adult Ted fits again.

Famous Ted's include Ted Hastings! Ed Sheeran's IG handle is teddysphotos. There was also a Teddy on Love Island- didn't seem to be any issues with his name.

Now laughing at myself- others reference a famous president. I reference Love Island and Line of Duty 😂
