Mentioned this briefly on a thread asking about another name but this name is growing on me so I would love a few more opinions! What do you think of Anoushka? When you hear the name, what kind of person do you imagine? Are there any possible shortenings I should think about? I can only think of Annie which I love

Love it
Anou?
Nu-nu
Nushie?

I'm never sure if a nickname means a pet name for family or a shortened version for the world but they're my suggestions

welshpolarbear · 09/02/2023 15:16

There was a girl in my high school called this 30 years ago. Her nn was Noush.

I think her name came from a traveller family.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/02/2023 15:16

Seems Russian to me. Any Russian heritage? It's a diminutive of Ann already so Annie or Ann would be the shortening. Anya?

Wimbz20 · 09/02/2023 15:18

I once knew an Anoush who was Armenian. And her "baby" name was Anoushka❤️ cute name. I love it.

mightymam · 09/02/2023 15:23

Lots of Anushka's where I live (majority Indian community).

PilatesPeach · 09/02/2023 15:26

Lovely name

Anoushka is sweet.
Also there is Anika and Ayesha.

devildeepbluesea · 09/02/2023 15:30

I know an Anoushka who is lovely (grown up). She is Noush to her friends. I like the name.

sanityisamyth · 09/02/2023 15:30

I knew one when I was at school. Thought it was very unusual.

pilates · 09/02/2023 15:32

I love it ❤️

Gorgeous name. As with pp she used the nn Noush . Every Anoushka I know is of Indian descent. I'd find it odd to meet one who wasn't.

Those of us with Russian heritage beg to differ!

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 09/02/2023 16:49

I've always thought of it as being Russian. Didn't know there was an Indian link.

TrudyProud · 09/02/2023 17:02

@MrsTerryPratchett interesting. I've only ever known Anoushkas of Indian descent. Beautiful name either way

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 09/02/2023 17:02

My friend Anouska went to India travelling last summer and was surprised that her name was recognised, apparently it is getting popular there as there is a bollywood star with the name and so it caught on with the younger generation. Anita is another name that is in both cultures.
Previously I have only associated Anouska with Russia and Europe.

007DoubleOSeven · 09/02/2023 17:02

Beautiful

Rauha · 09/02/2023 17:04

It's really beautiful

TrudyProud · 09/02/2023 17:05

@MrsTerryPratchett I should add that all the Noush's I know are now in their 30s as I met them in school.

XJerseyGirlX · 09/02/2023 17:14

Love it

Twoinapod · 09/02/2023 19:20

I really like it, I think of it as a Russian name.

Enko · 09/02/2023 19:31

I think its beautiful as a name.

Roseyposeypudding · 09/02/2023 23:46

The baby will be half Indian, but also has Russian heritage, so seems like a good fit as it is a name from both cultures 😊
