It’s definitely from the same era as Tracey and Linda popularity-wise, but it’s been around forever. Reclaim it, OP!

bridgetreilly · 04/02/2023 18:11

Julie by a mile. It’s lovely and due for a comeback.

JimnJoyce · 04/02/2023 18:12

in my family Julie and Sarah are sisters

CharlieSays13 · 04/02/2023 18:16

It was good enough for Shaking Stevens....

mrscumberbatch11 · 04/02/2023 18:16

Used to prefer Julia but now much prefer Julie.

I think it's lovely.

Sarah is my favourite from your list though, love it.

Don't like Aisling at all.

midsomermurderess · 04/02/2023 18:25

I think it sounds quite fresh.

Beaglesonlyplease · 04/02/2023 18:30

I have a DD with middle name Julianna.
I love Julia (her middle name is after a Julia Anne).
I also love Julianne.
Juliette.
nice but a bit obvious somehow.
I like Julie but I’d go Julia (or as I did Julianna)

cravingtoblerone · 04/02/2023 18:49

All the Julie's I know are mid-40s to 60. Feels a bit too dated to be modern and too modern to hit the 'granny chic' vibe of names like Mabel, Dora etc.

CharitySchmarity · 04/02/2023 22:36

In the 1960s it was almost compulsory to use Anne as Julie's middle name.

I know a Julie Sarah (almost certainly born in the 60s), a Julie Caroline (probably ever so slightly older) and another Julie with a very identifying Italian-sounding middle name who's just turned 60.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/02/2023 23:29

I'm a Julia - feel I got lucky as it feels fairly classic to me, very international but I've only ever met a handful of others, mostly my age or younger than me (early 40's) and of other nationalities too. Julie's on the other hand, I've met quite a lot of - and all the UK ones seem to be about 10 -20 years older than me. It's that Diane/Diana, Louise/Louisa, Helen/Helena thing- the version with the A just seems to have dated a bit less in the UK? I also think Juliet's lovely too.

Sarah is kind of the opposite in that I know LOADS my age (as an 80's kid there was at least 2 or 3 in every class at school) but I have met a few younger ones so maybe not as dated as Julie? I think statistically it was top 100 perennially until a decade or so ago too, so that would bear out it being a very classic name.

Aishling not my cup of tea (not sure I like the sound), so for me out of Julie and Sarah - I'd pick Sarah.

badgergirly · 04/02/2023 23:31

Reminds me of Me Julie from Ali G 😂

JimnJoyce · 05/02/2023 01:17

@CharlieSays13 and Jilted John

Hohofortherobbers · 02/02/2023 20:45

Prefer Julia and Juliet

My friend at school was Julia and everyone called her Julie.
People don't seem to hear the A sound on the end. Same with Joanna/Joanne.

Justlovedogs · 05/02/2023 02:04

incitethismeetingtorebellion · 03/02/2023 10:27

This is the first time I've seen my name on one of these threads and it's lovely to see how many people think it's shit 😂
Nobody calls me Julie. Most people call me a shortened version of my surname. But that bloody Ali G soon is still the bane of my life.

Me too. Glad it's so universally liked... Grin
51 years old. Never had someone take the mickey because of my name, only ever had family shorten it (to the initial) and 3 people call me Jules. A bit unusual for a child these days but not too out there.
Sarah's good, classic.
I didn't know how to pronounce Aisling, so would be worried about constant pronunciation correcting or shortening.

HerbalTeaAndCake · 05/02/2023 10:15

Juliet is MUCH nicer.

HerbalTeaAndCake · 05/02/2023 10:16

Or Julietta / juliette

Sarah is a beautiful name.

FuckingHateRats · 05/02/2023 10:22

My daughter (13) is Juliette. Her middle name is June (a family name) and gets called 'JuJu' affectionately.

No-one calls her Julie.

BillytheMountain · 24/04/2023 17:46

If you like Julie go for it, don’t let internet ransoms put you off.

It’s a sweet name and I prefer sound of Julie to Julia, the ‘Lee’ ending is softer than the ‘yaa’ a bit jarring to my ear

Thinking of some great Julie’s, Julie London,Julie Christie, Julie Walters
Julie Newmar Terry meets Julie Waterloo Sunset, oh and agree with pp re Strindberg’s Miss Julie 😂

JimnJoyce · 24/04/2023 20:58

Im one of 4 sisters we have a Julie and a Sarah

Mercurial123 · 24/04/2023 21:21

Agree with pp Julie sounds so nice when a French person says it.

Daffodilwoman · 24/04/2023 22:02

I don’t think it’s old enough to use yet if that makes sense. It’s more likely to be the pregnant woman’s mum’s name rather than her grandma’s name. I think people tend to use grandma names rather than mum names but it is entirely your choice of course.

salamithumbs · 25/04/2023 02:11

Are you in Ireland, OP? If you are, I don't think you need to worry about Julie being seen as dated. It makes sense that people in the UK would associated it with an older generation because it was so popular around the 60s, but it wasn't that popular in Ireland (didn't even make the top 100) so I wouldn't see it as particularly dated myself. Whereas I would think names like Geraldine, Bernadette, Eileen, Patricia etc belong firmly in the 60s! I've only ever met two Julies and they'd be around 20 and 25 now.
FWIW I think Julie is nice, also like Juliet and Juliana!
I think Sarah is fine but think Aisling seems a bit dated since I know loads my age and older (but if you're not in Ireland, maybe it won't seem dated after all!)

Daisybuttercup12345 · 25/04/2023 23:28

Pretty name though I prefer Juliet.
Sarah, Elizabeth and Claire are nice.
Aisling not a fan.

Viviennemary · 25/04/2023 23:34

Its an ok name but I orefer Julia.
