Prefer Julia to Julie and also like Aisling

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 03/02/2023 18:13

Juliet always just makes me think of how things ended for Romeo and Juliet....

Theskyoutsideisblue · 03/02/2023 18:16

Awful. Disclaimer my exh had an affair with a Julie. Possible not all are morally bankrupt

LovelyLovelyWarmCoffee · 03/02/2023 19:00

I’m a Julie and I love my name - I’m in my 30s. I don’t meet that many people with this name, but it is a well known and international name.

Funny that PP are saying it’s an old lady name, I’m from France and I know lots of Julies my age (at one point at school we were 3 Julies in the same class) however I don’t know any older ones. Different countries, different name trends I guess!

AnotherSpare · 03/02/2023 19:14

Julie is a lovely name. It sounds happy and light. Much prefer it to the more dreary sounding Julia or Juliet. I'm not a fan of Aisling though I don't hate it.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 03/02/2023 19:20

I'm of the Julie generation, there were lots at school and I still have a Julie friend.

It was on my shortlist about 25 years ago but fits awkwardly with our surname.

choochooandspook · 03/02/2023 19:28

awful

choochooandspook · 03/02/2023 19:29

Aisling is nice though

CharitySchmarity · 03/02/2023 20:38

I slightly prefer Julia but I always think Julie looks and sounds very cheerful somehow. It's not common nowadays, but remember children of the same age don't know that, and it's certainly not a "weird" name that anyone would make fun of. I say go for it if you love it. Having said that, Sarah is one of my all-time favourites! I quite like Aisling, but unless you live in Ireland, I think it will be mispronounced a lot.

LadyEloise1 · 03/02/2023 20:55

@lljkk I pronounce Aisling as Ashling- I'm Irish living in Dublin.

titchy · 03/02/2023 20:58

If it's for a character in a book you're writing set in the 80's who is a teenager, Julie is perfect. If not - no.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/02/2023 20:59

Julie Dawn
Julie Marie
Julie Ann
Julie Elizabeth

Ketzele · 03/02/2023 21:15

Julie is due a revival! It's very cute.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/02/2023 20:59

Julie Dawn
Julie Marie
Julie Ann
Julie Elizabeth

These were exactly the first and middle name combinations of my peers in the 60s...I think Julie and Dawn in themselves should be considered as the pretty girls names that they are, there is no legal requirement for a middle name. If you want to give one be different or give respect tona family member, it doesn't matter if it goes or flows, first name plus surname is official, nickname and surname is day to day..middle name is of interest only when there is a story behind it

Jessbow · 04/02/2023 10:16

I know a 3 year old Jooli

I never met a Julie I didn’t like, it’s a good name.

Wait until you meet my mother Grin

😂

Crumpetdisappointment · 04/02/2023 11:53

i am not keen on it
but it may have a new lease of life in 2023

DuchessOfSausage · 04/02/2023 13:09

In the 1960s it was almost compulsory to use Anne as Julie's middle name. Bring it up-to-date by making her a Julie May, Julie Rose or Julie Grace

DillDanding · 04/02/2023 13:25

I know a 3 year old Jooli

Poor little Jooli. A naff name and a stoopid spelling that no one will ever get right.

Poor kid

blondeshoulderlength · 04/02/2023 17:15

Julie is a 58yo lollypop lady. Julia is an aspiring actress, she's also a bit dull.

SirChenjins · 04/02/2023 17:22

Go for it - it’s a lovely name that’s due a revival, and it’s unusual in 2023 without having to resort to making up names in order to be youneeq.

PuppyMonkey · 04/02/2023 17:25

Julie might come back one day, but it's too soon now I think. It's from the same era/trend as Tracey, Linda and Dawn.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 04/02/2023 17:27

If your name features in the title of a Strindberg play I think you're a few rungs above Tracey and Linda.
