Are Fraser and Foster to similar?

Happylove1 · 30/01/2023 16:38

I have a DS Fraser and DD Darcie
currently looking at names for baby number 3 and me and DP can’t decide on many names that we both like. The only one we both like at the moment is Foster-Jude but after discussing it with my parents they said that Foster and Fraser were way to similar. We kind of see where they are coming from but think they are different enough.
We have no other name options if baby number 3 is a boy and don’t know what to do

Too similar. Sounds like kittens, starting a law firm. Fraser and Foster, miaow!

My favourite post of all time! 😹 🐱

Utterbullocks · 30/01/2023 17:33

Foster one of the worst names I have ever heard. Jude, on the other hand, is lovely.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/01/2023 17:35

custardbear · 30/01/2023 17:27

Too similar and not a first name, like some other surnames.
What about
Archer
Hunter
Forbes
Cooper
Fletcher (6 letters doesn't work here!)
Jarvis
Taylor
Sailor
Barney

You're in no position to criticise whilst suggesting FORBES for goodness sake. 😱😱😁😁

User76765 · 30/01/2023 17:37

Jude is nice. Foster is ridiculous.

custardbear · 30/01/2023 17:37

@SleepingStandingUp - Forbes is a Scottish name

Cocochat · 30/01/2023 17:38

I knew brothers called Kevin and Keith. Nobody cares once they’re adults.

FatSealSmugSoup · 30/01/2023 17:39

Oooh sailor! Another classic.

@SleepingStandingUp - Forbes is a Scottish name

It's worse than Foster. If OP comes back and says she's in Scotland I'll repent but it's strictly in the surname category. Accountant or similar. "Fraser and Forbes - legal advice when you need it!!"

Yesthatismychildsigh · 30/01/2023 17:41

Yes. Aside from the fact that it’s terrible as a name, especially hyphenated with Jude.

Landndialamrhf · 30/01/2023 17:43

I really wouldn’t think it was very kind to name a child foster.
my dc have unusual names that aren’t to everyone’s tastes, so I try not to judge but foster is too strongly linked to alcohol and the verb.

I’m not really sure what your taste is, but some other 6 letter names

alaster
Hunter
Carter
Forest
Freddy
hamish
rupert
elijah
Julien
Carson
Xavier
joshua
hudson
Colton
thomas
landon

MelchiorsMistress · 30/01/2023 17:43

Foster is not a good name. It’s either a difficult thing that is happening to a child or it sounds like fester. As in Uncle Fester or what my children’s lunchboxes did when they forgot to bring them home.

My six letter name suggestion is Austin to go with your other names.

HelloBunny · 30/01/2023 17:46

They’re too similar, as in Fraser & Nigel are not alike. I like Jude, though.

There’s a celeb, and her sons are Parker & Carter. So, whatever you’re into!

custardbear · 30/01/2023 17:47

@FatSealSmugSoup @SleepingStandingUp
I was putting surnames in that I've heard of before as first names.
FWIW I know a few Frasers and a Forbes - it's not uncommon for maiden /Clan names to be given as first names in Scotland

BreatheAndFocus · 30/01/2023 17:51

Foster isn’t a nice name IMO, for many reasons, and Foster-Jude doesn’t sound or look good at all.

6 letters? How about:

Finlay
Stefan
Jasper
Hamish
Patric
Seamus
Daniel

ODFOx · 30/01/2023 17:51

Fraser and Darcie go together well.

Foster is a surname. It doesn't go with the other two at all.

xJoyPeaceHealthx · 30/01/2023 17:58

Agree with the others, Jude is nice, having one syllable makes it not quite fit with the other two names but that's not a big dieal.
I also like Lorcan or Rory with Fraser and Darcie

CastleTower · 30/01/2023 18:22

Six letters ...

Fraser, Darcie and...

Harris
Eamonn
Austin
Arthur
Finley
Harley
Jenson
Elliot

Happylove1 · 30/01/2023 18:47

Me and DP have been researching more name possibilities (even though we still love foster)
and we have come up with
-Raurie
-Cruise
-Harlan
-Winter
What are everyone’s thoughts on these?

What's Ruarie? I've never heard that before. Should it be Ruairi?

Is Raurie a National spelling or just a way to make Rory have six letters? I like the name but not a made up spelling to fix a rule

Cruise, no. Its what I do when I go on a boat.

Harlan, no. Sounds like it's meant to be something else but I'm not sure what.

Winter is nice.

Is raurie Rory spelt with extra letters because you need 6? Confused

Cruise ship.

Harlan? Maybe Harley?

Winter season.

MuckyPlucky · 30/01/2023 18:57

Perfect solution to the slightly pointless 6-letter stipulation would be Finlay.

It’s not to my taste but it sounds good with the rest of the siblings, has 6 letters, and still has a Scottish feel.

Bankofrave · 30/01/2023 18:59

Is foster even a name? I’ve never heard it and it’s actual meaning doesn’t feel a good choice for a child.

Im going to gloss over the hyphenated version. That’s just bizarre.

Those other choices are quite out there compared to your existing children’s names. And there are two spellings of Rory yet you have managed to make one up totally to fit your 6 letter rule. Don’t do that -he will be constantly telling people how to spell it and be embarrassed his is made up.
the only Cruise I know is the Beckham’s Cruz which means star I think whereas your version means drive slowly which is a bit less glamorous.

Arthur
Robert
Daniel
Finlay
Rupert
Stuart
Albert
Joseph

all 6. It’s not that hard OP surely

There are so many six letter names you could come up with which aren't as bad as any of the ones you've already chosen. I'm guessing you like American sounding names over more traditional British?

Happylove1 · 30/01/2023 19:08

Never knew that the spelling of Raurie was weird-
DP’s grandfather was a Raurie and that’s where we got the name from
DP is Scottish therefore that’s how Fraser came about
our other children are teens so this was quite a surprise baby and our taste in names has changed quite a bit,I’ve never liked traditional names and much prefer more unique ones
