Ariadne - pretty and different. I like it but it's not my favourite on your list

Rosa - I love Rosa but in my local area at least there are Rosie's and Rose's everywhere so I feel Rosa would just blend in with all the others. Fine if your not fussed, but I tend towards more uncommon names

Edith - lovely. One of my favourites from your list

Isidora - I like Isadora better

Matilda - I'm so bored of Matilda now

Flora - pretty. I like it

Claudia - ok. It still feels a bit middle aged woman to me though

Therese - nice enough

Merryn - love it. My favourite from your list

Theodora - I liked it, until I met a really bratty one. Also not that keen on Thea

Valentina - it's ok just not my style

everythingsapickle · 29/01/2023 20:09

Favourites are Rosa and Edith, followed by Merryn
Ariadne is nice if there is a Greek connection
Really dislike Isidora, Claudia and Therese
Others OK

I love Flora

BelleSauvage9 · 29/01/2023 20:13

Merryn is actually the only one I like! Never heard it before but it's lovely 😊

Ariadne - love. Cool.
Rosa - like
Edith - hate. Dislike most names ending in th.
Isidora - seems wrong to me as I'm more used to Isadora.
Matilda - ok. A bit dull, I know lots.
Flora - ok.
Claudia - like
Therese - seems incomplete to me, I prefer Theresa.
Merryn - ok but makes me think of Hobbits. Silly I know.
Theodora - too common, I know a million Teddies, Theos and Theas now.
Valentina - ok.

Ariadne for the win!

A friend called her daughter "Margaret" recently!

I thought that was an unusual choice!

It was a genuine question you jackass, I’ve never heard that name before! Thought it might be a typo for adriane. Don’t bother answering that though, just insult instead!

Mate, you’re the jackass, clearly

TempsPerdu · 30/01/2023 14:45

Interesting list OP. My picks would be Flora or Merryn, with Ariadne as a wild card as it’s a bit of a risky one!

Ariadne - 7/10, it’s beautiful, but a lot to live up to. There was one on my year at school who really didn’t (gawky, awkward teen with greasy hair and NHS specs) and she was teased relentless for the contrast between her name and her image.

Rosa - 6/10, used to love this but it’s recently become much more popular and now blends into a pool of similar names

Edith - 5/10, I find it a little harsh, and Edies are two a penny

Isidora - 5/10, I can see objectively that it’s pretty, but it’s too frilly for me

Matilda - 4/10, a bit dull and overdone

Flora - 9/10, love this

Claudia - 7/10, like it, very classy and elegant, but I find the meaning a little off-putting

Therese - 3/10, not keen

Merryn - 9/10, lovely

Theodora - 4/10, a bit long and flouncy for me

Valentina - 4/10, ditto

@Coffeellama

www.britannica.com/topic/Ariadne-Greek-mythology

It is a very old and beautiful, classical name...

I guess it is pronounced something like Arry-Add-Knee

I believe it is used in The WaterBabies but not sure of other popular usage.

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/01/2023 22:28

1 Merryn
2 Claudia
= 3 Flora or Ariadne

Ariadne - 8
Rosa - 7 but done to death
Edith - 9 but done to death
Isidora - Isadora - 8 but she’ll be one of a million Issies
Matilda - 7 but done to death
Flora - 8
Claudia - 9
Therese - 6 - or 9 if nn Tessa
Merryn - 10
Theodora - 6 but overused
Valentina - 3 - The St V day thing would be so boring and Val and Tina are both awful

User6761 · 30/01/2023 22:32

Flora and Merryn my favourites by far.
