Some are more ‘wild’ than others but be honest… Can you imagine a grown man called…

Apollo
Matteo
Ruben
Asher
Manny
Sonny

I love them all but would appreciate opinions!

Matteo, Asher and Reuben I definitely could. We used Asher as a middle name for our DD.

Orangebadger · 28/01/2023 14:16

Apollo just no!
Matteo. Yes lovely name.
Ruben. Yes I know some men with this name. I like it.
Asher. Would probably get called Ash. So so.
Manny. I knew one man called Manny, but he was Manuel. Manny as a name on its own, nope!
Sonny. I don't like.

JupiterFortified · 28/01/2023 14:19

Matteo and Reuben are nice names.

Sonny I quite like.

The others sound a bit made up to me. And Apollo I think is awful unless he’s going to be a gladiator.

SausageRoll2020 · 28/01/2023 14:19

Matteo and Reuben are fine for child or adult.
I'm not keen on Asher but it isn't awful.

The rest of your list would be a definite no from me. Manny just reminds me of the character from Black Books

Miriam101 · 28/01/2023 14:22

Apollo?! Like Matteo but probably only if you have Italian/Spanish background. Actually Ruben is lovely. Just please, Apollo, no!!

VenusClapTrap · 28/01/2023 17:25

Matteo and Asher are nice. Reuben is fine but very common. I wouldn’t spell it Ruben.

Apollo - brave. I once had a colleague who announced his newborn son’s name as this and a lot of people took the piss (not to his face).

I dislike Manny and Sonny.

Rauha · 28/01/2023 17:29

Matteo is lovely

BridieConvert · 28/01/2023 17:31

Ruben and Matteo are my favourites from this list. Asher isn't terrible but not to my taste. Not a fan of Apollo at all. Can't imagine a Manny or Sonny as an adult!

Angliski · 28/01/2023 17:39

I know a baby Apollo. It is a bit grandiose but hopefully he will grow into it.

I knew an Asher as a child- seems fine to me.

also know lots of Rubén’s and Matteo’s. They’re lovely names

CosyFanTucci · 28/01/2023 17:44

I know a Manny (Emanuel) and he’s Italian. Matteo is Italian, as seems Sonny (given The Godfather). Depends if you have any Italian heritage, imo. Ruben is great though.

Consufed · 28/01/2023 18:23

Reuben, Matteo and Asher are all good.

ofwarren · 28/01/2023 18:27

Apollo - Not keen on the God thing
Matteo - Lovely name
Ruben - Not my taste but totally fine
Asher - Reminds me of the 'Brim Full' song which makes me not like it
Manny - Handy Manny?
Sonny - Really don't like

Viviennemary · 28/01/2023 18:31

Apollo awful
Matteo quite nice
Ruben again fine
Asher not keen
Manny dire
Sonny not keen

Landndialamrhf · 28/01/2023 18:37

Apollo - too try hard, no
Matteo - lovely, but odd if you’re British I think
Ruben - lovely, can imagine as an adult
Asher - fine, I like Ashton better but can imagine as an adult
Manny - really like it but I’d just call him Emmanuel and give him the nn manny
Sonny - i do really like this but it’s a nn name. I’d go for a longer version and use Sonny day to day.

Greenfairydust · 28/01/2023 19:34

Apollo- 13
Matteo- Italian waiter
Manny- male nanny?
Sonny - Cher or Godfather

Ruben and Asher at least don't have annoying/obvious associations but still not a fan.

YourWinter · 28/01/2023 19:37

Reuben (spelt this way) or Asher perhaps. Your son won’t thank you if you give him and of the other names, they’re ridiculous.

BeautifulDragon · 28/01/2023 19:49

Apollo- I think this is more common in the US (Apollo Creede & the husband who went to prison in RHOA Grin)
Matteo- lovely name, but you need Italian heritage imo
Ruben (Reuben!) Beautiful name
Asher- Lovely name
Manny- Fine as a nickname for Emanuel
Sonny- Okay, but not to my taste.

HoneyBadger525 · 28/01/2023 20:00

Apollo - awful, may justifiably grow up to resent you for it
Matteo - really sweet, like it
Ruben - not my cup of tea but fine as a name
Asher - as with Ruben, absolutely fine
Manny - can't stand it, sounds rough
Sonny - also can't stand it

Zola1 · 28/01/2023 20:06

Asher I like...the others seem too try hard

LaLuz7 · 28/01/2023 20:10

Matter is the only one I would use

Whatwhatwhatnow · 28/01/2023 20:12

I like all of them except Manny. It reminds me of when Rachel in Friends employed a male nanny.

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/01/2023 20:21

Apollo - it’s splendid, but a lot. Also lacks a short form that doesn’t make him sound like a chicken. How about Atticus?

Matteo - nice. He’ll just be called Matt though. Unless it’s something in your cultural background Matthias might make a bit more sense

Ruben - it’s Reuben. Lovely but very popular. Ronan?

Asher - OK

Manny - As a full name? No. Also it makes him sound like a male nanny.

Sonny - same. Call him Solomon or something

Mumofgirls2017 · 29/01/2023 08:53

All are fine apart from Manny. I know 2 Apollos, they’re great and I love it!
