I love the name Calle / Callie but for some irrational reason I don't like the name Kelly (sorry Kelly's)

When you hear the name Calle/Callie would you think it was Kelly?

I used to work with a Callie, lovely girl, pretty name. People sometime heard it as Carrie, never Kelly!

OzziePopPop · 28/01/2023 05:31

No, Callie is CAL-ee, KEL-ee

Totally different names and pronunciation 😀

shiningcuckoo · 28/01/2023 05:36

Only with a kiwi accent.

romdowa · 28/01/2023 05:36

I think they would sound similar in a northern Irish accent as well.

I'm a kiwi 😂

They sound different.

Don’t use Calle , people will struggle to pronounce it and to be honest it looks made up.

Pollywoddles · 28/01/2023 05:54

I know a Calle but he’s a man from Sweden. It’s a Scandi male name pronounced Cal. I wouldn’t even think to pronounce it with two syllables.

Twoinapod · 28/01/2023 06:01

Totally different sounds. I’d use Callie though Calle would get mispronounced

ohblahdeeohblahdahlifegoeson · 28/01/2023 06:12

Ok this is making me feel good about potentially using the name Callie :)

To be honest, I think it is a problem, especially with a kiwi accent.

Hatcat · 28/01/2023 07:05

USA or UK accent clearly Callie (like on Grey’s Anatomy) Auz or NZ accent there could be some confusion.

Jojobees · 28/01/2023 07:09

I think Callie is a lovely name, and is definitely not heard to me as Kelly.

AnotherNameChangeYes · 28/01/2023 07:25

Love the name Callie, never thought it was Kelly.

BridieConvert · 28/01/2023 08:20

I love the name Callie and it was on my short list ☺️

Only you can decide if it sounds acceptable in your accent though!

TakeNoTwitsGiveNoDucks · 28/01/2023 08:21

If you live in England you're probably fine. In Ireland and the states they can sound quite similar.

I like it! Especially short for Calliope

TakeNoTwitsGiveNoDucks · 28/01/2023 08:22

By Ireland I mean Belfast btw, which is where I'm from. Probably wouldn't be an issue in Dublin? Not sure.

xeraco · 28/01/2023 08:22

Don't use calle- it's Spanish for road.

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/01/2023 11:07

I shouldn’t think so, but Callie is traditionally short for Caroline (or Calista or Calliope I guess) so I would give her the full name option to be on the safe side.

FayCarew · 28/01/2023 11:46

@ohblahdeeohblahdahlifegoeson , in some accents I hear Kelly as Callie

I wouldn't think of Calle being said as Cally, I'd think it was said as Cal

CharitySchmarity · 29/01/2023 10:46

I don't like either name very much but I don't think of them as sounding similar at all, except maybe when said in an American accent where a short A tends to be closer to an E.

TrashyPanda · 29/01/2023 12:22

If I saw Calle I’d think it was pronounced Kale.

i might be a bit dim though.

abyssofwoah · 29/01/2023 12:34

Not at all. I know a wee Callie and it had never crossed my mind it was similar to Kelly. Lovely name, definitely prefer Callie to Calle spelling

Youraccountisnolongervalid · 29/01/2023 12:44

Sounds more like Carly.
