Definitely Elizabeth.

Irene screams old lady with a blue rinse to me unfortunately.

JupiterFortified · 27/01/2023 23:16

although if you’re swaying towards Irene I would maybe go for Irena instead x

MaverickGooseGoose · 27/01/2023 23:17

Irene Elizabeth?

boingboingboingboing · 27/01/2023 23:17

Irene is an old australian woman to me who shouts at everyone.

Elizabeth is literally timeless and classic.

Irene is rare - for a reason!

Typo22 · 27/01/2023 23:36

Elizabeth hands down, Irene is my nana's name and, like a previous OP, is the old Australian soap character who seems to adopt every stray child in Australia

Beeswood · 27/01/2023 23:37

Elizabeth

Twoinapod · 28/01/2023 00:24

Elizabeth definitely.

Irene is not ready for a comeback maybe ever. Usually brings back memories of an old lady, for many people it’s a loud shouty old lady.

Barleysugar86 · 28/01/2023 00:28

Irene... I names are very 'in' so I don't think it will sound out of place. And I think it could be very classy.

Elizabeth is nice but it's a long name I don't know of anyone who actually gets called it. She'd be Liz or Lizzie... You can't stop it, my mother really tried as she wanted the long version but as soon as my sister went to school that was it.

Viviennemary · 28/01/2023 00:30

Irene is very old fashioned though I quite like it. Elizabeth is very nice and timeless.

piggijg · 28/01/2023 09:02

Elizabeth is so much nicer.

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/01/2023 11:04

Irene if you are going for the proper eye-ree-nee pronunciation, which I think will come back soon. But not the awful Eye-reen. Irina is nice too.

But failing that Elizabeth is a lovely classic

IreneJones · 28/01/2023 11:05

Irene but I may be biased!

BloodAndFire · 28/01/2023 11:07

I dislike them both but Irene is a bit better.

Guessing you're definitely choosing between those two so don't want other suggestions? are they both family names?

EarthlyNightshade · 28/01/2023 11:12

First thought was Irene from Home and Away!

There's also Irene Cara, from the film Fame. I think the name is nice to say.

Would Alexandra Irene be an option?

DinaofCloud9 · 28/01/2023 11:15

Neither. Irene is very old fashioned and Elizabeth is so dull. It seems popular on here so I imagine most people will say Elizabeth.

Pjmasksonrepeat · 28/01/2023 11:44

I prefer Elizabeth but only because I love both Libby and Eliza which are potential nicknames. I know an Irene who is in her 30s x

VenusClapTrap · 28/01/2023 11:48

Love Irene. Elizabeth is very clunky to me.

ColonelSpondleClagnut · 28/01/2023 11:52

Irene definitely. Elizabeth is such a mouthful - and always feels quite spiky to me!

PatientZorro · 28/01/2023 11:56

Well I’ve just learnt a lesson never to read a baby names thread where my own name is one of the options! 😂😆

catinboots123 · 28/01/2023 12:00

I'm sorry OP but everyone will be laughing behind your back if you opt for Irene

ladyforallseasons · 28/01/2023 12:03

Elizabeth Alexandra

Beth for short?

WaltzingWaters · 28/01/2023 15:38

Definitely Elizabeth.

Irini? Greek version of Irene. Irene itself I’m definitely not a fan of personally.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 28/01/2023 15:40

Elizabeth.r

BridieConvert · 28/01/2023 17:57

Elizabeth is better as it has so many nickname options.
Not a fan of Irene at all but agree with pp that Irina is nice.

Bouledeneige · 29/01/2023 20:54

Neither. Elizabeth is very frumpy and Irene old lady ish.

Eliza's okay, Elodie is lovely.
