Toby - boy or dog

My beautiful boy is Toby. We go out walking a lot because we both love it. But it seems an extraordinary amount of dogs are also called Toby. Thankfully my Toby doesn't get the connection but I do find it amusing when I'm calling Toby and the couple coming towards me are doing the same.

I don’t know any of either but funnily enough, I know 3 horses called Toby.

Horse. His proper name is Toblerone though.

Mine was a cat, but I know a man in his 40s, one in his 20s and a baby called Toby. It’s a lovely name.

Known of several dogs called Toby and a boy called Toby but his name is Tobias. Several Lolas round here both dogs/cats and girls.

Boy definitely, haven't heard an animal with that name myself personally but it would suit a loved pet also but go for it!

Oh I didn't factor in horses! My Toby is just that. He is not a fancy Toby/Tobias. It suits him.

I think of the dog in the Rivers of London books when I hear thr name Toby. However, I'm also aware of it as a name that, when I was a child, was 'posh' (short for Tobias).

I've only ever known pets to be called Toby. Dogs , cats , horses, guine pigs , hamsters.

My youngest son is a Toby (& Toblerone!)
I do know of a dog called Toby too though.

I have a little boy called Toby, his name is Tobias but he is 2 and he wouldn’t have a clue as we’ve only ever called him Toby.

We do have approximately 4762 teddies in our house also named Toby…you can guess who named those!

It's a horses name in my experience.

I do associate it with dogs. The dog in Punch & Judy was called Toby but so many names are used for pets now. I don't think it's much of an issue.

I'm in the south - I've met several little boys called Toby, also a couple of dogs and one cat.

A neighbour had a dog called Toby so I grew up thinking it was a dog's name.

My cat is called Toby. Would have used for my son but the cat came first!

I also have a Tobias who has little idea he is not officially a Toby!

I don't know any dog Tobys. I think other boys names may be more popular for dogs like Charlie, Alfie, Max and Milo. But I don't personally have a problem with it being shared with dogs/horses.

I know one Lab and one very handsome man.
