Really like Emily for name for DD, due in a few months. Ideally middle name would be Jenny after a close family member- but does Emily Jenny sound ok? Family member was very much not a Jennifer so very much don't want to go down that route.

Back up name is Eliza Jenny.

Call her Jenny. It's a gorgeous name.
Eliza Jenny is better than Emily Jenny

Eastereggsboxedupready · 24/01/2023 10:33

Eliza Jenny is much better!

SalviaOfficinalis · 24/01/2023 10:34

I think it sounds fine. And remember it’s quite rare to actually say the full name, so it doesn’t need perfect flow.

First names are used constantly, so I would go for the one you really like - don’t comprise on that just for better flow on the full name.

SLT2022 · 24/01/2023 10:34

I too prefer Eliza Jenny

yorkshireteapots · 24/01/2023 11:50

Yes my gut is that I shouldn't worry about the flow of the full name too much- as how often will that really be said?

Dont worry about the flow. Its unimportant

Just pick the names you want

Kayjay2018 · 24/01/2023 12:04

Absolutely go with names you like/ love. We were after a Jenny nickname after someone close to my husband who passed away and we're going to go with Jennifer. Instead we decided on Genevieve, she get called Jen (Gen), Jenny or Vivi (or by her full name when being cheeky) and just means that she has her own name and still a nod to a special person

mondler · 24/01/2023 14:12

I'd agree that it doesnt flow the easiest but as you won't use her middle name daily it shouldn't matter much as long as the surname doesn't end in an 'y' sound.

Would Jen be an option?

ShesThunderstorms · 24/01/2023 14:13

I definitely prefer Eliza Jenny. It's lovely.

I don't think Emily Jenny rolls off the tongue.
But how often do you say someone's full name like that?

My first and middle name don't particularly go together but I can't think of any occasions they were said together other than when I got married!

I'd go with the first name you love the best and then add that middle name as the tribute you want it to be.

custardbear · 24/01/2023 14:16

I'd probably put a bin 'y' ending name in between so
Emily Florence Jenny Smythe
Emily Sorrel Jenny Brown

Etc

RachelSq · 24/01/2023 14:18

I don’t think Emily Jenny sounds great (because of both ending in the same sound), but I’d stick with Emily if it’s your favourite first name.

As others say, it’s rare to use both names together in normal speech. The only time I use my middle name is for forms (typed, or on the phone where you say it slowly anyway).

Don’t stress about it if it’s what you like!

chloe11b · 24/01/2023 14:19

Both sound nice - my daughter has a double barrel name we only ever call her by her first name "Amy" so don't worry about the flow

Twoinapod · 24/01/2023 15:57

Could you have Emily Jenna instead? Cuts out the similar y endings.

Sandysandwich · 24/01/2023 16:16

The flow doesn't matter really- but Eliza Jenny does sound better.
But the flow will change when you add whatever your surname is- she will hardly ever be Emily Jenny, she would be Emily, Emily Cooper or Emily Jenny Cooper. All sound nice.

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/01/2023 20:16

Emily Jenny is ok.. or you could stick something in the middle? If you like Emily I wouldn’t change it - middle names never get used.

Purplepurse · 24/01/2023 20:58

Don't change your prefered first name to make the middle name sound better. A middle name is so rarely used.

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 24/01/2023 21:05

How about Emily Jennifer as that flows.

I'd probably lengthen Eliza and go with Elizabeth Jenny as then there are lots of options for nicknames for Elizabeth.

OhhangonitShaq · 24/01/2023 21:15

Lovely names! Why not add a second middle name, a three syllable one would work nicely…

Emily Nicolette Jenny
Emily Phillippa Jenny
Emily Annabelle Jenny
Emily Helena Jenny
Emily Caroline Jenny
