How are you pronouncing it? Differently to Cruz, I assume?

YourGazeHitsTheSideOfMyFace · 23/01/2023 17:08

How ever is it pronounced? If it’s related to Cruz and derived from Spanish, I’d say Crew-eeth.

If it’s made up - no idea. Or is it supposed to be an edgy spelling of ‘cruise’, and pronounced like that?

Either way, it’s a no from me.

Beginningless · 23/01/2023 17:10

I have never heard of this name, unless it’s a spelling of Cruz. A dear friend called her boy Cruz and I struggled to know what to say as I think it’s awful. I know it’s quite popular so I don’t want to offend but to me it’s silly, a gimmick, not an actual name.

A different spelling of Cruz pronounced cruise
I know of two ,one spelt Cruze and the other cruiz

I don't like it myself. It just seems weird to me to take the Spanish/Portuguese word for "Cross" and spell it wrong. Unless there's a cultural reason behind it, it comes across as a bit tacky (sorry).

I would go with Cruz to avoid confusion.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 23/01/2023 17:25

Croo-EETH?

Not even unique then

Soubriquet · 23/01/2023 17:27

Oh, I was saying Crew-ese one Ruiz

kirkandpetal · 23/01/2023 17:29

No.

It will be misspelt
It will be mispronounced
It will be sneered at - like it or not.

Just no. He is not a holiday boat.

Pinkdafodils · 23/01/2023 17:32

Cruiz pronounced like Cruise,

EezyOozy · 23/01/2023 17:33

It’s tacky and it looks daft.

StormSeason · 23/01/2023 17:37

Unfortunately it just looks misspelled...

Sherrystrull · 23/01/2023 17:42

I thought it was Croo-iz

cravingtoblerone · 23/01/2023 17:45

Hard pass from me. Agree with others - it will be misspelt and mispronounced the kid's entire life.

RaininSummer · 23/01/2023 17:46

I would have said Cru-iz without guidance. Seems a name fraught with difficulty.

TinyTinyHamsterBalls · 23/01/2023 17:50

It's Spanish, are you? Otherwise you'll look daft.

AuntieStella · 23/01/2023 17:54

Cruz is a Spanish girls name (it's one of the Appellations of the Virgin)

So use with care if you live in a diverse area. But as it might raise eyebrows, may as well go the whole hog and raise everyone's by spelling it Cruiz

Aworldofmyown · 23/01/2023 17:55

Nope.

ARoughRide · 23/01/2023 17:58

I’m thinking this is how the register will be called initially.

ShesThunderstorms · 23/01/2023 17:58

I'd pronounce that "croo-is"
If you like Cruz, just use Cruz, it doesn't have to have a different spelling.

Choconut · 23/01/2023 18:04

Misspelling names is really chav. If you want to call him Cruz then call him Cruz. I would guess that everyone would assume he is named after Beckham's kid but at least it's an actual name.

mathanxiety · 23/01/2023 18:04

Choose Cruise or Cruz, not a mish mash of the two.

I'd go for Cruz, personally. I wouldn't want anyone thinking I'm a Tom Cruise fan.

Outfor150 · 23/01/2023 18:15

It’s not a name.

picnicshnicnic · 23/01/2023 18:21

Struggling to see what you like about it Op
