Would you be kind enough to discuss them with me?

Single parent, no family close. Baby girl expected very soon!

Names I like

Claudia
Romilly
Morgan
Hero
Wendy

All very different. Surname will be a double barrelled one, 3 syllables all up.

Please be kind as I feel pathetic having no one to help me.

Congratulations on your new little one. Claudia Romilly is lovely.

Eatentoomanyroses · 21/01/2023 21:21

I think I quite like Romilly from your list.

Mumofgirls2017 · 21/01/2023 22:15

Go for Romilly nn Romy!

Longdarkcloud · 21/01/2023 22:25

I love Romilly.
The origin of Wendy is that as some pps have pointed out, that it was invented by JM Barrie. He had a “thing” about making friends with children and one family comprised Peter who he used as his model for Peter Pan. Another child, think it was a girl. Called him her Friendy-Wendy and that’s where the Wendy came from. So it’s a sort-of meaningless name.
It seems such an important thing choosing a name but provided you really like it and it’s not going to cause your child embarrassment then it’s not that hard. Remember you have 6 weeks after the birth to register the baby and you don’t even need a name to register — can add it later — so plenty of time to “try out” the names you like.

Daftmum47 · 21/01/2023 22:26

These are all nice names!
I dreamt my child’s name too, but literally no one in the family liked it, so in the end that became their middle name. I think dreams are so powerful…. You could always add a twist and call her Morgana?

Peccary · 21/01/2023 22:27

Estella?

I like Claudia. Romilly is a no for me as I live near Romiley

MissedItByThisMuch · 21/01/2023 22:37

@LaLuz7 do stop parading your ignorance. Hero is a name with a long history beginning from Greek mythology.

Keep telling yourself that...

bravelittletiger · 21/01/2023 22:53

All beautiful other than Hero...if you like Hero have it as a middle name not a first name. My personal faves are Romilly and Claudia (both on my list, both so elegant and cool)

DaisyDarker · 21/01/2023 22:57

I'm another voice saying Romilly Hero is lovely

midsomermurderess · 21/01/2023 22:58

it''s cringeworthy as fuck'. It seems to be a Mumsnet hobby. Let me parade my utter ignorance before the world!

determinedtomakethiswork · 21/01/2023 23:03

The surnames, are they both yours? Will you have an identical surname to your child?

MissMarplesbag · 21/01/2023 23:11

Romilly
Claudia/Claudine/Claudette - I know all 3 irl
Estelle/Estella/Stella

Mumuser124 · 21/01/2023 23:52

Claudia is nice.

I wouldn't have put it quite so bluntly but Hero has connotations beyond its more high-brow history.

I studied classics at school but would still think of the name Hero as the noun, not the Greek mythological character. And therefore put it in the same category of names as Danger and Ace.

That's the thing with names, you may see it as a lovely nod to a Greek priestess, others may stifle their laughter. You can't dictate how others interpret it so if it bothers you, perhaps not the best choice. Which presumably is why the OP wanted to canvass opinion.

I'm just reflecting back what at least 90% of the people in real life will think of the name, but be too polite to tell you to your face...

What is trully ignorant is to believe otherwise... You are deluded if you think it will regarded as a normal, appropriate name.

lonelymummy22 · 22/01/2023 10:51

Appreciate all the thoughts so far!

Didn't want this thread to be nasty or have nasty reactions to the names as I've clearly got enough going on, but it seems to be going that way.

Hero will have different connotations for different people, appreciate that.

Another vote for Romilly. I love Romy as a NN.

I was also going to suggest Estelle, Estella or Celeste.

I think you should wait until you meet her. She may be Morgan after all. I like Morgan too. It is uncommon but not unusual and easy to spell and pronounce.

cravingtoblerone · 22/01/2023 11:17

Romilly Hero is a lovely combo.

Another vote against Morgan...I think it will date badly.

Longdarkcloud · 22/01/2023 12:53

I like Hero but wouldn’t be brave enough to use it as a first name but it’s great for a middle name — imagine having a semi-secret middle name like that! So my vote would also be for Romilly Hero. My synaesthete mind sees that as a dark pink/red Romilly with a Sky blue Hero so a nice combo.

dew141 · 22/01/2023 12:53

I agree, Hero would work well as a middle name and Romilly Hero flows nicely.

I have friends who picked Isembard as a properly bold middle name after Brunel. I also lumbered mine with my maiden name which unfortunately became better known as a popular character from a U.S. sitcom so now it looks like I named them after him.

Ah the joys of trying to pick a name! I think it's lovely that you're taking a lot of care OP.

Wednesdayschildhasstubbedhertoe · 22/01/2023 12:55

Romilly Hero is lovely

I like Morgan a lot too

Huh?

You are the one displaying your ignorance.

KirstenBlest · 22/01/2023 17:59

Are Morgan and Wendy Welsh names?
Not RTFT. Morgan is, and is a welsh surname. Usually it's a boy's name not a girl's, and it rhymes with organ, as teenagers will point out.
Wendy is from Peter Pan but Wendy Craig is really a Gwendoline, and Gwendoline is an anglicised form of Gwendolen.

From your list, I'd choose Hero. Not keen on the others.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 22/01/2023 18:23

Congratulations
I absolutely love Romilly
