Baby boy names - can’t agree

Baby is two weeks old and we still can’t agree on names. The options are

Noah Otis …
Otis Noah

i prefer Noah & think since I went through awful Labour I should name him 🥲. Partner prefers Otis as thinks there will be too many Noah’s as it’s popular. I did like Otis to start with but I’ve gone off if a bit.

Is it a nice name?

Feeling under pressure to decide as every day we have people asking what we have called him 🫣😬😫

I wouldn't choose it on how well it flows. I think what name they'll be known by every day is more important.

For me Noah is nicer.

TenPounder · 20/01/2023 14:37

It's your baby so ultimately anyone else's opinion does not carry that much weight.

Personally I like Noah most, but that's because I don't think any child of mine would be 'cool' enough to pull off Otis. I personally would not choose Noah because it is currently no 1 in baby charts and I do not like really popular names. But some people do so whatever floats your boat really.

Would Oscar be a possibility as an alternative to Otis if you are not sure? Or if you like Hebrew style names like Noah, Joseph, Josiah, Ezra, Elijah?

My husband does say I have ultimate naming power but we have narrowed it down to names we can live with, so it's not that I'd overrule him so much as just get a slight edge on the deciding vote.

Also just to say I spent the first six months thinking I had named my baby wrongly and now I love it, so whatever you pick it might take a while to fix

I love the name Noah, there is only one Noah in my DC’s year so despite its popularity we don’t hear it much. Unlike Samuel, we have 6 of those!

Aria999 · 20/01/2023 23:52

We had a similar dilemma with DD2. We agreed to flip a coin and afterwards to start talking about her as the name it landed on, but we would keep thinking about it to see if we both liked it.

DramaAlpaca · 21/01/2023 00:03

Otis is nice. Noah is just so... whiny sounding.

Go for Otis.

dustydewdrop · 21/01/2023 00:21

I like Noah best as a first name. I’m not sure either combination works together though. Maybe a longer middle name with either.

everythingsapickle · 21/01/2023 00:23

I prefer Noah.

MarleneH · 21/01/2023 09:43

Noah is very popular.
I would go with Otis.

2chocolateoranges · 21/01/2023 09:50

Definitely Noah , unless your surname starts with a B and his initials would be NOB.

Fivebeanchilli · 21/01/2023 10:16

I personally prefer Otis as I know a lot of Noahs (my 18 year old has 6 in his year!) and only one Otis.
But both are fine.
I agree that you can't use Noah Otis if your surname begins with a B and I wouldn't use it personally if it began with a T, W or G either.

ChillysWaterBottle · 21/01/2023 10:20

Both lovely but I have to be honest there is at least one Noah in every single baby/toddler class I have been to, and more than one in several. So I can see your husband's point about its popularity. However as someone said its popular for a reason, it's a really nice name! I also think Noah Otis flows better. If it was up to me though I would chose Otis as I love that name.

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/01/2023 10:23

They are both nice.

I prefer Noah, but it is more popular

On the other hand Otis is slightly faddy, and is getting pretty popular. As Noah is more classic I think Otis will date more.

Purplecatshopaholic · 21/01/2023 10:26

Noah is just so bloody common. Go for Otis.

BevMarsh · 21/01/2023 10:32

Really dislike Otis.
Noah is nice.

Hersetta427 · 22/01/2023 00:11

He right - Noah is overused now but don't like Otis either.

mathanxiety · 22/01/2023 01:51

Oscar?
Otto?
Noel?

Noah is really wet imo, and Otis is very clunky.

If you're deadlocked, I think you need to go back tonthe drawing board.

wingsofabird · 23/01/2023 16:18

Prefer Noah but both nice

Calliell · 24/01/2023 03:07

Noah. Otis sounds like an ear problem.
