Really like Maeve and Maeva (both great and were on our list for DD but had a DS!)

Cats23 · 17/01/2023 13:05

The latter 2 names will be misspelt and Mispronounced.
I like both Ivy and Erin

Thanks! I love the meaning of Maeve more than Maeva and think it sounds slightly stronger but next name is one syllable too so not sure if it seems like it’s missing something that the a in Maeva might fill, just can’t decide

I like both of them pretty equally, am just worried about Ivy being popular name although it doesn’t seem to be where I am

If I had to pick - it would probably be Maeve (but Maeva is also great and so would suggest going with that if it works best with your surname). Ivy is not my personal taste but I do also really like Erin (and also Elin - a name I saw in another thread and may be an option if you like Erin!)

20viona · 17/01/2023 13:33

Maeva 100%! I wanted to call our 4 month old that but my husband just wouldn't have it. We settled on Ayla.

20viona · 17/01/2023 13:34

Ayla Ivy to be exact lol

DuchessOfSausage · 17/01/2023 13:38

I don't like any of them.
Ivy - too similar to all the Evie, Ava, Eva names and a garden weed
Erin - harsh sounding but looks a bit like the Evie, Ellie, Ella names
Maeve - disappears into all the May, Mae, Maia, Maya, Mia, Mabel type names
Maeva - like Maeve but with an a on the end

kaylsd · 17/01/2023 13:39

I have a Ivy, she's 5 month old. regularly get comments of how nice her name is ❤️

Indecisivemamabear · 17/01/2023 13:40

Aw that’s lovely, do you mind me asking if you come across lots of Ivy’s. I saw it’s number 5 in popular names which puts me off slightly but I really love the name!

Ayla is a lovely name! My OH prefers Maeve to Maeva but I think Maeva has the edge over it slightly

Thank you. Im noticing Erin is one of those names that seems to divide opinion quite a bit, someone told me it was a bit dated but I haven’t personally met any other Erin’s old or young so it still appeals to me

Maeve is much nicer than Maeva, and won't get mixed up with Ava, which I don't like. Erin is ok but I think Elin is much nicer.

Rickandmortified100 · 17/01/2023 14:01

Love Maeve

@Indecisivemamabear I think it might be regional? Where I live she's the only ivy we know of & my mums works in a primary school and is yet to come across one as she covers foundation year :)

Ivy Grace is my little girl ❤️

kaylsd · 17/01/2023 14:26

@Indecisivemamabear around here there's a lot of Amelia's, Ava's, Olivia's Lilly's Sophia's

I've always liked olive & Marnie too 😘

Hobbesmanc · 17/01/2023 14:26

Maeve is getting really popular. I've two in my friendship and family group. So shouldn't be any spelling issues. Also Queen Maeve in The Boys. Is a shame Mavis is still a bit Coronation Street as I think it looks really pretty.

Maeve and Erin also great if you have any Irish heritage at all. Eira also a lovely Celtic name.

KirstenBlest · 17/01/2023 15:19

@Indecisivemamabear , have a look on names.darkgreener.com darkgreener]]. Maeve shows a very steep curve, and there the other spellings for it won't show in the figures.

Twoinapod · 17/01/2023 15:47

I love Ivy, I asked about it when having DD2 and everyone went on about how popular it was but I’ve never come across one. Maeve is nice, it’s got quite popular since sex education came out so I do t think it’s any different from Ivy in that respect. Definitely heard of more baby Maeves. I don’t think pronounciation will be an issue, most people know how to say it. I’m not a fan of Erin

@Hobbesmanc Eira is a Welsh name meaning snow.

mathanxiety · 17/01/2023 16:43

I think both Ivy and Maeve are going to be the new Ava.

Maeve is heading there faster than Ivy.

I'd choose Ivy.

Don't like Erin - it's a soup brand for me.
Maeva sounds too close to the Uber popular Ava.

AnotherNameChangeYes · 17/01/2023 17:10

Ivy is everywhere, it just blends in with all the Ava’s and Evie’s.

I like Maeva, quite like Erin.

SmileWithADimple · 17/01/2023 17:12

I like Ivy best from your list, then Erin.

AnotherSpare · 17/01/2023 17:22

I love Erin, one of my favourites! Erin is my definite top choice from your list. Ivy would be my second choice. Erin Ivy together even better.
I don't like Maeve (or therefore Maeva) at all. You know how some name you just don't like for no reason, that's Maeve for me. Also I always think it sounds like a shortened version of Mavis.

My daughter is an Erin, she'll be 3 in March. I think it's a lovely name, popular enough but not overly popular, easy to pronounce and spell :)
