Arthur, a mix of Andrew and Samantha?

We've decided on the name Arthur. We have relatives called Andrew and Samantha, who we really don't get on with. Told a family friend our name choice and she said "what a lovely idea, using a name which is like a mix of Andrew and Samantha".

Now, originally we just thought what an odd thing to say and it's definitely not but probably because we've been thinking about it too much, we're starting to wonder whether Arthur does sound similar?

Just really asking opinions on whether you think Arthur sounds like a nod to Andrew and Samantha or whether we're overthinking it cause of what our friend said? Thank you

No I don't think it does at all.

What an odd comment from your friend. There is surely no association!

They're nuts

HadEnoughOfBears · 16/01/2023 16:54

Not in the slightest!

GoldenGorilla · 16/01/2023 16:59

Really weird comment, I would never think Arthur sounds like a mix of those names

HPLikecraft · 16/01/2023 17:10

Well, it begins with A, so there's the resemblance to Andrew, but to Samantha... not remotely similar to it!

Purplemagnolias · 16/01/2023 17:15

It sort of is, actually. The A and the th sounds are similar

Twoinapod · 16/01/2023 18:31

Not at all, no one would ever make that link. What a peculiar comment to make

Daisybuttercup12345 · 17/01/2023 00:46

How strange. I wouldn't think so at all.

I wonder what they are smoking. Total nonsense.

AnotherSpare · 17/01/2023 01:56

Arthur isn't remotely a mix of Andrew and Samantha. What a strange link for your relative to come to.
Perhaps you should give your Arthur the middle name Samdrew to keep all of the family happy.

Amipreg1 · 17/01/2023 02:23

We have an 8yo Arthur and not once have I thought it relates to those names...

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 17/01/2023 08:49

Not even a tiny little bit. Arthur is very much name in its own right.

Some people do give portmanteaux to their children but the resulting name is more along the lines of Malandra (as in Burrows, daughter of Malcolm and Sandra) or Renesmee (as in Twighlight, Renée + Esmé).

TrashyPanda · 17/01/2023 13:39

the only way it could sound similar is if this person says “Artha” instead of Arthur.

NotRainingToday · 17/01/2023 16:16

If you'd said Andrew and Martha, you'd have a point. Samantha not so much.
