Hi, i am extremely early pregnant only six weeks but I am already thinking of names! What do people think of Isla? Middle name Grace. Or if anyone else has any other middle name suggestions? xx

I have an Isla Grace who is 16 now. I’d never met an Isla before and now they are everywhere. I think it’s a beautiful sounding name but now very common. It would depend for me if you minded about that or not.

Overthebow · 15/01/2023 17:57

It’s very popular now and Grace is also a very popular middle name. She won’t be the only Isla Grace you know most likely!

Topseyt123 · 15/01/2023 18:02

I think it is a lovely name. It wouldn't bother me at all that it is popular. I've really got no idea why people make such a fuss over that.

If you like it use it.

caramac04 · 15/01/2023 18:11

Beautiful

KylieCharlene · 15/01/2023 18:12

Lovely

MolesOnPoles · 15/01/2023 18:13

Fine, but deeply boring.

PeekAtYou · 15/01/2023 18:13

Grace, Rose and Mae/Mai/May are the 3 most popular middle names atm so I would pick. More unusual middle name to go with Isla which is very popular.

Emmamoo89 · 15/01/2023 18:13

Love isla. One of my besties little girl is called that x

Moomoomeemee · 15/01/2023 18:17

It's a bit boring as a pp says, but definitely not a bad name. I meet a lot of Islas and Graces and Grace is really commonly used as a middle name. Add all the Lilah, Lola, Layla, Ella names and Isla does blend in a bit.

This is for babies born now btw. A 16yo Isla would be more unusual and I never met one in the secondary school I worked in. There are tonnes in the primary I work in along with Amelias and Laylas.

Twoinapod · 15/01/2023 18:22

depends whether it bothers you that it’s so popular. Also most Islas seem to be Isla Grace or Isla Rose that I’ve come across. But if that doesn’t bother you then go for it

toastofthetown · 15/01/2023 18:31

Isla is such a popular first name and when combined with Grace which has been one of the main filler middle names for girls for the last 20 years, the name sounds very generic.

Middle name suggestions which match what I like in a middle name (not matchy with sounds, different syllable count, not too popular) are:
Cecily
Clementine
Fern
Jean
Juliet
Mirabelle
Penelope
Rosalind
Valentina

motherfugga · 15/01/2023 18:34

We have three Islas living on our road between the ages of 4-9. It gets confusing!

Jomummy1013 · 15/01/2023 18:40

Thanks all. I think it's gorgeous! I wanted Grace for a first name for my eldest but my ex said no! Would Isla Grace be a common combo then?
Tbh I don't mind about popularity - my son is called Oliver which is remarkably common....And my girls both have names which are in the top 10/20. All have fairly classic names.
Any other suggestions for middle names welcome <3 xx

@toastofthetown I LOVE Juliet! I actually like that as a first name too. Isla Juliet...that goes well I think xx

Would Isla Grace be a common combo then?

Massively common. Isla is lovely but every Isla will be Isla Grace/Rose/May. They are literally every girl’s middle name currently and Islas are everywhere!

Lovely but boring, sorry! It’s the equivalent of Sarah Louise or Sarah Jane from the 80s.

Jomummy1013 · 15/01/2023 20:42

I didn't know it was so popular! I could switch the names around and he Juliet Isla? Xx

What do people think of Juliet?

AnotherNameChangeYes · 15/01/2023 20:55

Juliet is lovely. I only know one grown up one.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 15/01/2023 21:02

Much prefer Juliet.

Isla is so common these days and I personally think it's quite a drab little name.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 15/01/2023 21:13

I prefer Juliet. I think it’s fresher and it’ll be harder for people to predict her age. I like my name but dislike it’s tied to a specific time period.

AlwaysGinPlease · 15/01/2023 21:14

On the same dull spectrum as Freya

I agree with this. I've got one! We had never heard the name before and didn't realise how popular it was becoming - ours is 8. She's the only Isla in her class luckily. But there are 5 in her gymnastics class!

Robinvstrike · 15/01/2023 21:24

Almost went with Isla Grace 14 years ago and very glad we didn't go for that combination due to the sudden spike in popularity shortly afterwards. My daughter therefore has a different, more unusual middle name. There are no other Islas in her friend group, and clubs or in any of her classes at school. I'm aware of one other in her school year of approx 340 and one in the year above. But am always coming across younger Islas.
I think to choose this combination now would sound quite dated and unimaginative. Juliet is nice.

MeMeMeYou · 15/01/2023 21:24

Love Juliet, only ever met one other

Robinvstrike · 15/01/2023 21:25

I do still think it's a beautiful name, and certainly not 'drab' (can think of many other named that would fulfil this criterion!)
