Hello,
Currently pregnant with my first child and wondering how people will react to the name we have chosen for our child.
Don't want to tell anyone in real life in case they hate it.

So we have: Cecilia (Cece) for a girl and Nathaniel (Nate) for a boy.

Please tell me your honest thoughts on our names ❤

Congratulations!

I really like Cecilia (Cece) and Nathaniel (Nate). They are both lovely!

resm · 13/01/2023 21:36

I love both names, especially Cecilia as my best friend comes from a musical family and they all took this name for confirmation as St Cecilia is the patron saint of music and musicians.

YourWinter · 13/01/2023 21:37

Both nice names!

evemillbank · 13/01/2023 21:44

I'm not a fan of either but you really should just go for the names YOU like the most. Everyone is different. Thank god.

Firebird83 · 13/01/2023 22:08

Lovely names

atteatimeeverybodyagrees · 13/01/2023 22:10

Nathaniel is nice but don't get too settled on the shorterning. I hate cece. Can't stand it, truly awful.

mathanxiety · 13/01/2023 22:19

YYY, @midsomermurderess

And there's a surprising ignorance of names that are firmly embedded in the Judeo-Christian tradition of Britain.

Aria999 · 14/01/2023 22:13

@mathanxiety yes, I remember a thread insisting it was cultural appropriation to use the name Maria. Ffs.

Hobbesmanc · 14/01/2023 22:25

Instead of Nathaniel. What about Jonathan?

Why do people do this on these threads lmao, OP says names and posters suggest completely different ones. Batshit.

Lol. Only because they have the same meaning and are connected.

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 14/01/2023 22:41

Two lovely names, cecilia is a name I could see myself using, Nathaniel less so but good solid name and I like your shortenings.

HallieHufflepuff · 16/01/2023 22:56

@Butwhytho 😅 I was! But I didn't really like Nate as a character funnily enough.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 17/01/2023 00:43

I think Celia is nicer.
Nathaniel is good, don't like Nate though.

Whitwhit · 17/01/2023 00:55

Really like both names op. 👍🏻

comfyshoes2022 · 17/01/2023 01:07

Like Cecilia and Nathaniel. Not a fan of cece but I like Nate.

ouch321 · 17/01/2023 01:18

I think Cecilia is a bit of a mouthful.
Nathaniel is ok I guess.

To sum up: meh

Ihavehadenoughalready · 17/01/2023 03:09

garlictwist · 17/01/2023 04:26

Cecelia makes me think of that song "making love in the afternoon with Cecelia".

Nathanial is nice.

NothingButSpace · 17/01/2023 04:40

I like Nathaniel. Not keen on Cecilia at all.

CheerfulYank · 17/01/2023 04:40

I love them both, but then again I AM American 😉

I’m unlikely to have anymore babies, but if I did Nathaniel would definitely be on my boy list.

neptuneandcokelet · 17/01/2023 05:10

Are you a fan of the office US? That was my first thought when I heard the names. Love cece, not so keen on Nate (only due to knowing one personally).

Enko · 17/01/2023 08:45

I like Cecilia but be aware of people singing the Simon and Garfunkel song to her. (It's not the nicest song lyrics wise)

Nathaniel is fine.

HallieHufflepuff · 17/01/2023 10:04

Thanks everyone for your opinions! I know about the song but I don't think many younger people will know it. And I can't let a song from 50 years ago dictate my life now.
I think we'll stick with our names, thanks for commenting 😊

@neptuneandcokelet I am a fan of The Office! And I did like the name Phillipbfpr a boy but DH veto'd that one.
We got the name from New Girl though. I know some are saying that Cece is childish but Cece is an adult in that show and hardly anyone calls her Cecilia

@CheerfulYank Haha 😄 they're not as popular I'm the UK I guess but I can't please everyone, can I?

DuchessOfSausage · 17/01/2023 10:27

@HallieHufflepuff , it won't dictate your life, but it might dictate hers. Songs are often revived or cover versions are made.
Tom Jones' Delilah was a hit before I was born but is sung at football matches today.
I was at school with a Nathan Jones when it was covered by Bananarama,.

HallieHufflepuff · 17/01/2023 10:36

@DuchessOfSausage Why would a song dictate someone's life?
And if I don't choose a baby name that I love then I am letting something from over 50 years ago dictate my life.

And I've looked at the lyrics, the lady in the song isn't a racist or a murderer so what's the big deal with her name being in a song?

OP posts:
DuchessOfSausage · 17/01/2023 12:23

@HallieHufflepuff , on your thread, how many posts mention the song?
How many spell the name as Cecelia?

If DD mentioned a friend called Cecilia, she might know the song, but I or DH might say 'Like Simon & Garfunkel' or sing 'Cec-eel-ya, you're breaking my heart...', and this would happen again and again.

There are some names that are closely linked with songs. I remember this song in the charts, and my friend had lots of people sing it at her.
