Hello,
Currently pregnant with my first child and wondering how people will react to the name we have chosen for our child.
Don't want to tell anyone in real life in case they hate it.

So we have: Cecilia (Cece) for a girl and Nathaniel (Nate) for a boy.

Please tell me your honest thoughts on our names ❤

I like them both, but do think nicknames should evolve.

JustMaggie · 12/01/2023 12:29

I like both!

B1993 · 12/01/2023 12:36

I think they're both fine!

Nothing tops 'Lukey Buoy' (Lucky Boy) in the terrible names department so as long as your not naming you're kid that, you can't go too far wrong. 🤣 Good solid names like these aren't a bad choice at all!

Theoldwoman · 12/01/2023 12:51

Both great names although I slightly prefer Celia, and Nate.

Happygone · 12/01/2023 14:43

I don't like Nate as reminds me of an annoying Gnat but CeCe is okay

SpentDandelion · 12/01/2023 14:47

Both are lovely and very underused.

dampthursday · 12/01/2023 14:57

I really like Cecelia but I’m not keen on Cece.

Like Nathaniel and love Nate!

mumonherphone · 12/01/2023 14:59

I like Nathaniel and love Nathan.
Cece is cute, Cecilia sounds very posh to me and I probably wouldn't use it for this reason. But nothing really wrong with your choices, congratulations.

RuthW · 12/01/2023 15:54

Both lovely

Emmmie · 12/01/2023 16:02

Cecelia is a very pretty sounding name, but I do not like the meaning. It means blind.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/01/2023 16:10

Really dislike CeCe but the full name is lovely.

Purplemagnolias · 12/01/2023 16:56

The meaning of Cecilia puts me off

Tamtam86 · 12/01/2023 17:00

I really like them both

Disneyforaweek · 12/01/2023 17:01

I like both! Cecilia is lovely and I also like Celia and Cecily

HallieHufflepuff · 12/01/2023 17:35

@DuchessOfSausage What names DO you like so I can judge your taste? 😂

@Yesthatismychildsigh What do you mean, sorry? I imagine they will choose their own nickname when they're old enough or if they would preferred to be referred to by their full name.

@Emmmie @Purplemagnolias Yeah I do know the meaning, which isn't great. But we love the name.

Thank you for the congratulations everyone 😊

They're decent names. Won't raise any eyebrows. Don't worry.

I must say I do prefer Nathan over Nathaniel though.

DuchessOfSausage · 12/01/2023 18:53

I like lots of names, but they are usually ones where I've got used to them.
Names I like tend to be classic ones like James, Thomas, Peter, David etc for boys but quite like retro names like Victor and Winston
Girl names: if there's a long form or a short form, I tend to prefer the shorter version - Alice not Alison or Alicia, Helen not Helena, Louise not Louisa, Sophie not Sophia/Sofia, Susan not Suzanne or Susannah etc, and prefer the full name to a diminutive, so Margaret not Margot, Elizabeth not Eliza/Lily/Libby/Beth...
Not keen on names that have been very popular for a while - they're ok but seem a bit worn out after a while. Not keen on surnames as first names.

villamariavintrapp · 12/01/2023 18:57

Nice names. I personally prefer Nathan, and don't like the meaning of Cecilia, but that's just my preference.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 12/01/2023 19:32

How many people have ignored the OP's spelling? It's Cecilia, not Cecelia. Not that difficult.

DowntonCrabby · 12/01/2023 19:34

Love the nn’s and Nathanial is a gorgeous name. I’m meh about Cecelia but Cece is lovely.

DuchessOfSausage · 12/01/2023 19:39

@ChildrenOfTheQuorn , Must be difficult if so many of us are getting it wrong.

Ohwelljusttoday · 12/01/2023 19:43

Both names are absolutely gorgeous!

Ohwelljusttoday · 12/01/2023 19:48

Nat as short for Nathaniel
Cecilia is a beautiful name! As short I have known sisi (spelt chici ) pronounced as Sicilia

cptartapp · 12/01/2023 19:49

Not to my taste. Cece is rather infantile and I have an irrational distaste for Nate. Sorry.
Nathan however, is lovely.

mynameislaetitia · 12/01/2023 19:50

Aw, absolutely love these names!!! Great choices!
