Hello,
Currently pregnant with my first child and wondering how people will react to the name we have chosen for our child.
Don't want to tell anyone in real life in case they hate it.

So we have: Cecilia (Cece) for a girl and Nathaniel (Nate) for a boy.

Please tell me your honest thoughts on our names ❤

Not to my taste. Cece is rather infantile and I have an irrational distaste for Nate. Sorry.
Nathan however, is lovely.

Totally get that.
However, I am supporting my families who have children with those names lol

Ohwelljusttoday · 12/01/2023 19:53

You, on the other hand, seem very opinionated? I would be interested to know why?

Ohwelljusttoday · 12/01/2023 19:56

And also what your understanding of special needs, alternative provisions and why they are needed, as well as why you feel this way?

Twoinapod · 12/01/2023 20:24

I like Celia, Cecelia always sounds like they have a stutter trying to say Celia though.

Nathaniel is a bit of a mouthful. Nathan would be better

Butwhytho · 12/01/2023 20:29

Were you a gossip girl fan back in the day?
They’re both lovely names. Congratulations!

Wrongsideofpennines · 12/01/2023 20:34

I really like the long versions of both names. Less keen on the nicknames but I think nicknames just develop over time instead of being decided before birth. I know several people who thought they would use nicknames for their children and the kids are now school age and have always been known as their full name.

Rosalindisafuckingnightmare · 12/01/2023 20:39

Love both, Celia and Nathan both on my list but Nate vetoed by DH and close friend heavily implied she’d want to use Celia in the future after a deceased close relative. Had boys anyway!

Aria999 · 13/01/2023 00:47

@Twizbe

Cerys is an awesome name!

atoxk · 13/01/2023 00:55

Cecelia is horrible but if you do name your child that, pretty quick it will be ok and no one will bother, like any name. I like Nate though, slightly different but strong . Definitely more American to me but I love American.

Cuppasoupmonster · 13/01/2023 06:18

In a word, no, I don’t like them. Nate is okayish but Cecilia is twee and grannyish, I have a granny name and I hate it!

Hobbesmanc · 13/01/2023 08:29

Not sure why people think the names are American or unusual. Unless it's the song?

Cecelia is lovely and very classical. I like Sissy as a nick name although I appreciate it does have some unfortunate connotations

Nat, Natty, Nate. All work well.

Hobbesmanc · 13/01/2023 08:30

Instead of Nathaniel. What about Jonathan?

Alwayswonderedwhy · 13/01/2023 08:31

Yes. Both lovely names.

Starlitestarbright · 13/01/2023 08:37

What about celeste?

pilates · 13/01/2023 08:38

Yes

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 13/01/2023 08:59

Love them both.

Why do people do this on these threads lmao, OP says names and posters suggest completely different ones. Batshit.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 13/01/2023 09:04

Both lovely
I had a French great aunt named Cecilia.
v elegant and timeless imo
we called her aunt cecilia
no abbreviation allowed 😂

How many people have ignored the OP's spelling? It's Cecilia, not Cecelia. Not that difficult.

I’m one of the people who wrote Cecelia. I didn’t ‘ignore’ the OP’s spelling (not consciously anyway)- I assume I was thrown by the spelling of Cece.

Me too. I looked for the spelling online and the first result was a Ms Ahern, novelist.
Not RTFT but is Cece Sessy or Si-Si?

Nap1983 · 13/01/2023 10:58

I really like Cecilia.. Cece just reminds me of the girl from beaches! 😂
Nathaniel and Nate I really dislike, sorry. But like Nathan or Daniel (prefer Daniel)

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/01/2023 11:02

I really love Nathaniel - less keen on Nate but I understand Nathaniel is a bit of a mouthful so people will want to shorten.

Not a fan of Cecilia as much but that's more down to the ones I've met not being great (only two but it still affects how you view a name). It has a pretty sound, I always think CeCe sounds like she would be very entitled and spoilt though, not sure why

Twizbe · 13/01/2023 11:29

I pronounce it Si-Si so nothing like the actual pronunciation of her full name Cerys lol.

midsomermurderess · 13/01/2023 19:23

God almighty, this site and it’s weird anti-Americanism. They are both perfectly nice names/nicknames.

Merple · 13/01/2023 19:25

I like them. Refreshingly different.
