Dovey is in the same ilk as Birdie. There was an amazing woman named Dovey Roundtree. I never forgot her name after reading about her.

Ipanema01 · 09/01/2023 19:23

My favourites are
Thea
Etta - I don’t like Harriet though, sorry!
Birdie
Clara
Clementine
Ottilie

Whiskeypowers · 09/01/2023 19:26

Love Polly and Suki

Twizbe · 09/01/2023 19:38

Elizabeth is by far my favourite on that list. It's a timeless classic with so many options for shortening. It works at every age as well.

twothirty5th · 09/01/2023 19:42

Olive, nn. Olly - like
Thea - boring
Orlie - like
Norie - absolutely not. Don't like the 'nor' sound. Reminds me of nitty Nora.
Harriet-Etta - love Harriet. Absolutely not together though, way too many Ts going on. Imagine shouting HARRIETETTA in the park.
Sylvie - no, old.
Cora - reminds me of Cora from eastenders. Don't like the cor / nor sounds
Effie short for Elizabeth - love
Posey - absolutely not. Sounds a bit limp.
Polly - love
Birdie - no
Clara - like
Beatrix, nn. Trixie/Bixie - average, common
Emma - timeless classic
Emmeline - LOVE nn Emmie for short
Suki - is your child a cat? Or a Suzuki swift?
Clementine - absolutely not. Clammy is a hideous nn and reminds me of clammy. Also limp.
Indie/India - love both

twothirty5th · 09/01/2023 19:43

Clemmy is a hideous nn should I say!

KirstenBlest · 09/01/2023 19:51

Olive, nn. Olly - not keen
Thea - too many Theos.
Orlie - like Orly Airport?
Norie - sounds like a seaweed
Harriet-Etta - Harriet ate a what?
Sylvie - Krin
Cora - napple
Effie short for Elizabeth - effin' eck
Posey - Posy is ok short for Primrose
Polly - like it a lot
Birdie - better than Bogey I suppose
Clara - at least it's a name but I don't like it
Beatrix, nn. Trixie/Bixie - Bixie is awful.
Emma - like it a lot
Emmeline - ok
Suki - ok
Clementine - satsuma. Clemmie is phlegmy and clammy
Indie/India - no.
Ottilie - don't like it

RambamThankyouMam · 09/01/2023 19:54

Olive, nn. Olly - horrible. The olive is not an evocative or beautiful thing.

Thea - old lady.

Orlie - not a name.

Norie - Japanese seaweed

Harriet-Etta - try-hard.

Sylvie - nice.

Cora - nice.

Effie short for Elizabeth - no. Effie isn't short for Elizabeth as there's no "f" sound in the name.

Posey - twee.

Polly - ok.

Birdie - vile.

Clara - nice.

Beatrix - nice but Bixie is stupid.

Emma - nice but plain.

Emmeline - lovely.

Suki - Siamese cat.

Clementine - disgusting. "Clem" sounds like slang for vaginal discharge.

Indie/India - colonial.

Ottilie - try-hard/Zoella.

BabyFour2023 · 09/01/2023 19:55

Elizabeths are rarely Liz these days - Eliza, Elsie, Bess, Beth, Buffy.. I think Effie would fit in fine - and if you called her that from the off it probably would get used

Mammatojudeandedie · 16/01/2023 21:41

I really like Olive, Ottlilie with Ottie for short is pretty cool, Polly is nice too.

what about:

Edie
Margot
Nell
Nola
Penelope
Marley
Leni

I went with Edie for my little one but it was the hardest decision EVER!

Mummytobe333 · 21/01/2023 16:10
