I'm not normally a "modern" or "American" style namer (despite actually being American) but I like Hadley. Ernest Hemingway's first wife was called this (so hardly all that modern, really). And as pp have said, I also think of Hadley Freeman which is a positive association.

If your style is gender-neutral, surname style, you could do a lot worse than Hadley for a girl.

It’s a surname. I suppose it would be a good middle name if it was in the family.

Penguinsaregreat · 08/01/2023 11:07

I would assume Hadley is male. I think people might call her Hayley by mistake.

Greeneyegirl · 08/01/2023 11:09

LOVE IT! My only thought is of Ernest Hemmingways first wife which is a great association. It was on my lisy but husband vetoed.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 08/01/2023 11:11

Makes me think of Hadley Freeman, so it's a yes from.me!

Danikm151 · 08/01/2023 11:15

I think of Hadley from Trueblood 😂

purpledalmation · 08/01/2023 11:46

A boy maybe. Not at all feminine

Hadley Freeman is a legend

Agreed, so I’m predisposed to like it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 08/01/2023 12:40

I don’t like surname names generally but it’s OK. I like Hadley Freeman.

PurpleFlower1983 · 08/01/2023 15:51

I know a Hadley who is a lovely girl but I’m really not keen on the name to be honest. It doesn’t suit the girl at all.

scottishnames · 08/01/2023 17:00

Hemingway's first wife did indeed go by the name of Hadley but it was her middle name. Her first name was Elizabeth.
Whichever way round the names go, first ormiddle, I think that the combination of an unusual name with a better-known one is perhaps a good idea. It gives the child/adult a widerchoice.

Sarahcoggles · 08/01/2023 17:03

It's a surname

CoffeeBoy · 08/01/2023 17:26

I know a boy Hadley. Not keen.

YaWeeFurryBastard · 08/01/2023 17:36

It’s a surname, not nice and certainly not nice for a girl.

yorkshirepudsx · 08/01/2023 17:38

I love it

RambamThankyouMam · 08/01/2023 17:39

I love the name Hadley.

NestingSparrow · 08/01/2023 00:32

It’s a nice surname.

This was my first thought , nice for a surname or possibly a middle name but not first name

SemperIdem · 08/01/2023 21:11

I don’t mind it. I quite often mistype my own name as Hadley when speed typing 😅
