love:
Mabel
Matilda
Delilah

like meaning of Martha - it means lady, but not in love with it

love:
August
Jasper

like Rupert and Wilfred, but don't love it

PrimarilyParented · 07/01/2023 20:34

Maeve - not mad keen on. Very old lady in my mind and a tad ugly sounding.
Martha - like
Delilah - also like but it is gaining in popularity
Constance - not mad keen on unless you’re religious and don’t particularly like connie as the nn.
Mabel - ok but a bit of a fading into the background name for me.
Matilda - like but it’s very popular
Dottie (Dorothy/Dorothea) - I like Dorothea but do prefer Theodora with nick name Dottie.
Joanie (Joan) - I love Joan, it’s old fashioned but not very well used and has Joanie or Jo as nicknames
Meredith - not a great fan
Beatrix - love

so I’d say Beatrix, Joan or Dorothea/Theodora

Kit (Christopher) - like but it’s popular
Wilf (Wilfred) - ok
Rupert - love
Luca - not mad keen on but it’s ok
Artie (Arthur) - don’t especially like
River - it’s very hippy, not my vibe, but if it’s yours it could work.
Jasper - really don’t like
August - a time of year not a name for me
Casper - really don’t like (just think of the ghost) also think I just dislike the ‘asp’ sound in this and Jasper.

so Rupert, Christopher or Wilfred would be my picks.

Greeneyegirl · 07/01/2023 20:41

We have similar name lists

Maeve - love but getting popular
Martha - love
Delilah - like
Constance - like
Mabel - like
Matilda - bit too popular
Dottie (Dorothy/Dorothea) - prefer Dorothea
Joanie (Joan) - dislike. Bit too old lady
Meredith - dislike
Beatrix - love

Kit (Christopher) - too popular for me
Wilf (Wilfred) - boris johnsons kid
Rupert - like
Luca - too popular (think its top 5)
Artie (Arthur) - too popular
River - nice
Jasper - nice, is on our list
August - nice
Casper - correct spelling is Caspar. Its high on our list

TempsPerdu · 07/01/2023 20:47

Faves would be Beatrix and Jasper/Casper (prefer Caspar spelling). I also quite like Meredith and Dottie (but only with full name Dorothea) for a girl, and August for a boy. Not that keen on the others.

Hadtocomment · 07/01/2023 21:59

I like Mabel, Maeve, Dottie (Dorothea) and Delilah. i quite like Connie. Prefer Polly I think.

Like Casper/Caspar most of the boys' names. After that maybe Jasper and Wilf.

Rauha · 07/01/2023 22:02

Love:
Martha
Constance
Mabel
Meredith

Love:
Artie (Arthur)
Casper

GoodbyeLondon · 07/01/2023 22:05

Mabel or Wilfred would get my vote. I really like them both.

I don't like Delilah. It'll only get shortened to Lilah and there are so many similar names around they all blur into one.

I don't like Luca, but I'm funny about Luke/Luc names. I'm just not keen on the sound of them

Fivebeanchilli · 07/01/2023 22:16

Maeve - not keen
Martha - lovely and fits well
Delilah - not keen
Constance - lovely and fits well
Mabel - nice but getting very popular
Matilda - nice but super popular
Dottie (Dorothy/Dorothea) - I like Dorothy and Dorothea but not as keen on Dottie
Joanie (Joan) - not keen
Meredith - lovely. This would be my favourite except for the fact that Prim and Merry both sound like adjectives
Beatrix - lovely but popular

Martha, Constance or Meredith for me.

Kit (Christopher) - lovely
Wilf (Wilfred) - boring because of the old man thing that's so popular. Also it would put me off to have the same taste as Boris Johnson
Rupert - lovely but prefer Rufus
Luca - meh. Nice enough
Artie (Arthur) - nice but super popular
River - yuck
Jasper - lovely. The pairing is very Boden - not sure if that would put you off
August - lovely
Casper - prefer Jasper

Kit, Jasper, Rupert or August for me but Rufus would win if that was an option.

Mumofgirls2017 · 07/01/2023 22:35

AuntieStella · 07/01/2023 22:39

I don't like 'Prim' (just sounds strict as prissy to me, sorry)

So perhaps the names I like least might be your best fit?

Delilah
Mabel
Joanie (Joan)

Luca
Artie (Arthur)
River
August

AmandaMirandaPanda · 07/01/2023 23:45

Maeve and Christopher/Kit for me. (I also really like August, Jasper, and River.)

Matilda
Dottie (Dorothy/Dorothea)
Beatrix

Artie (Arthur)
Jasper
Casper

Beamur · 08/01/2023 11:04

I like all of your girls names. Ruling out the most popular ones I have come across (unless you want to be the 3rd Mabel in a class) I would go for Constance or Martha.
Boys I like Kit and Wilfred from your list.

Ihavehadenoughalready · 08/01/2023 12:26

Maeve and I don't like any of the boy names

Bagzzz · 08/01/2023 12:31

Favourites Matilda and Christopher. Although you may start off with a nickname do think if there are any for the name that you really dislike as I’m not sure how much control you have even if you start with yours.

TreeMate · 08/01/2023 12:36

Love most of your girls names, with the exception of Mabel (dull). My favourites are Maeve, Joanie & Constance/Connie. I’m going to be one of those people, though, and suggest Maeve only if you have Irish connections.

Wildly different boys name tastes to me. Luca is the only one I’d remotely use. Wilf, Kit and Rupert are awfully wet.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 08/01/2023 12:36

I don't like Delilah or Beatrix. The rest of the girls names are OK

I'm not keen on any of the boys names. August and River are awful. Sorry

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 08/01/2023 12:48

Joan and Wilfred

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 08/01/2023 13:05

My favourites of your girls names are Martha and Mabel, but I don't think either go with Primrose all that well. I think Primrose's sister is one of these:

Delilah
Constance
Matilda
Beatrix

And her brother might be:

Kit (Christopher)
August
Casper

...with my favourite there being August (I like the nature link).
