Frank to be known as Frankie.

Algor1thm · 07/01/2023 06:55

Franklin?

Mybonnielad · 07/01/2023 06:58

I like Frankie.

Fucket · 07/01/2023 07:02

Although it may not matter to you. As a teacher I see more female Frankie’s than male Frankie’s. Also Often if more than one in a class I call them by their full name to distinguish between them I.e. Francis or Francheska etc

DillDanding · 07/01/2023 07:05

As a teacher I see more female Frankie’s than male Frankie’s.

Worrying that you’re a teacher. 🥴

smileladiesplease · 07/01/2023 07:10

Like them all to be fair

Lightningrain · 07/01/2023 07:16

I think I’d use Francis on the birth certificate and they use one of the shortening’s day to day.

I’d assume Frankie to be a girl so it’s nice for him to have options when he’s older if he doesn’t like it. I know an Edward known as Teddy for most of his childhood that decided his name was too cutesy at age 9. He now goes by Ed so it’s good to have the option there.

lifeinthehills · 07/01/2023 07:17

I'd use Francis as the other two can be nicknames from that.

For me it depends whether you intend on using the birth certificate name or if it's just for 'show'.

I think if you want to call him Frankie and that will be the name you use for everything then that should go on the birth certificate.

I know of several kids who have a birth certificate name and a nick name they actually use in day to day life and it's confusing for them at a young age especially in nursery/school.

Soproudoflionesses · 07/01/2023 07:49

I would assume Frankie is a girl's name so would probably go with Frank

Twogirlsandaboy17 · 07/01/2023 08:34

@Algor1thm not keen on Franklin but thank you for the suggestion

We have Francis on BC and he’s called various nickname alternatives by different people. I imagine when he’s older he will be Francis day to day. Great choice by the way!

RuthW · 07/01/2023 09:12

Francis to be known as Frank/ie

BelenaConhamHarter · 07/01/2023 09:16

Francis on certificate. You can shorten to the others.

NotMeNoNo · 07/01/2023 09:22

Frank is a complete name, there are several in our family. People will use Frankie without prompting for a child I expect.

imnotthatkindofmum · 07/01/2023 09:36

Contrary to what another teacher said, Frankie is very much more often a boys name in my area although I have taught a female Frankie. Hers was short for Francesca, the boys were just Frankie/Franky

My daughter is Frances, my dad is Francis and both have used the nickname Frankie. My dad is most often Frank. My daughter is 16 and has settled on Frankie herself. My preference is to use the full name at birth so they have options later on as there's a few nicknames. My sister went out with a Francis and he was called Fran.

Obviously I don't call my daughter by her actual name....or either of my other two. Are you even a parent if your kids don't have totally unrelated pet names that you use in public to embarrass them?!!

Twoinapod · 07/01/2023 12:24

I’m not a fan of Francis, to me it’s a girls name. I think the male spelling is Frances but it just sounds really feminine to me.

Franklin is much better but go for Frank if you prefer it. Frankie again seems more feminine these days

I really don’t like Francis, I find it wet and drippy. Prefer Frank.

Hoolihan · 07/01/2023 13:10

Wouldn't use Frankie on BC, it's too cutesy. I like both Francis & Frank.

Twogirlsandaboy17 · 07/01/2023 13:20

I have had a few comments about Francis being wet I will be honest I thought it was a solid name now doubting myself

fairycupcakes · 07/01/2023 14:01

I really like Francis! Don’t think it’s wet at all (whatever that means 😆)

midsomermurderess · 07/01/2023 14:42

Francis, Frank for short. It is indeed a solid name.
